You would feel very out of place in scruffy clothes. Dress as you would at any other site in London. Backpacks carried at front and cameras around neck will be put in platic bags. Think the backpack rule is more to avoid knocking displays around than security. Cameras is obvious, they don't want anybody copying their outrageous displays.

We went to Harrod's in khaki's and tee shirts- we didn't feel anyone looking at us as if we shouldn't be there. By the way, we did take our camera in and got a fine shot of the deli section- however we didn't use flash- didn't know we couldn't take pictures!

There are so many tourists there that you would not feel out of place dressed in typical tourist attire. I do recall hearing a story a while back that a large woman wearing leggings was asked to leave the store, but have never heard of a dress code.

I do recall hearing a story a while back that a large woman wearing leggings was asked to leave the store. However, I think the store was embarrassed by the media attention to this episode. I have not heard anything since about a dress code.

From Harrods website: http://www.harrods.com/faqs/default.html#dresscode<BR><BR>"It is our aim to make the experience of shopping at Harrods a pleasurable one in every respect. To this end a dress code has been introduced which has been widely welcomed by our customers.<BR>The code does not permit any person entering the store who is wearing ripped jeans, high cut Bermuda or beach shorts, swimwear, bare midriffs, athletic singlets, cycling shorts, bare feet, flip flops or thong sandals, dirty or unkempt clothing or any extremes of personal presentation."<BR><BR>The last sentence is bit of a 'catch-all' and depends on the opinion of the security staff on duty. The case of a lady in leggings probably fell foul of this.<BR><BR>
