Have Any Men Traveling Alone Been Approached by - What's a Female Version of a Gigolo?
Okay - turnabout is fair play. A recent thread posed the question in relation to women and received many responses. I was bit surprised that many women seemed to have a secret fantasy of being approached by a strange man when traveling alone.
Even though I would consider myself having above average looks (don't we all?), I must admit that I have never been approached by a woman when traveling alone. Not that I am seeking this out - I am very happily married. Should I feel slighted? Or is this something that doesn't happen to men?

The word is prostitute, and they have, indeed, approached me. The reply No Thankyou works well. Beggars are more trouble, but I get rid of them easily by replying in Urdu.

In France the prostitutes never approach the men.
When I innocently (I swear! )walked north of Les Halles in Paris on r. St Denis, the ladies stood in the doorways and made "come hither" looks.

Yes - in Asia.
I was in a nice pub and taped a twenty dollar bill to my forehead so as not to lose it. Almost immediately, several very young and pretty ladies gathered around me and were kind enough to ask about my travel plans and financial situation. Why, they even gave me a free neck massage.
Boy, were they disappointed when the "little wife" grabbed me by the ear and dragged me out of there.
Must have been that new after-shave lotion I was using.

I was having a cocktail at the bar in the Gellert Hotel (Budapest) as were a couple. The woman was talking a bit too excitedly, ocassionaly our eyes would cross. Anyway - the man excused himself - she came over, gave me her card and said if I was looking for a nice evening to please give her a call - she then goes back to her seat, the man comes back and they resume their conversation - she waved goodbye and winked as they were leaving.

I disagree about the prostitutes. It would be a "golddigger" who would approach a man as a female gigolo.
I think "groupie" would fall into this catagory too, but prositute, no.
My husband has been approached by women at resorts, they usually give him the "eye" when he is waiting for me, etc. I have watched from afar and thankfully he doesn't respond!!

Yes, it happens. In London I was sitting at the Museum Tavern during a very quiet period in the early afternoon. I struck up a conversation with a lady patron, about ten years my junior, and we talked small for the better part of an hour before she had to leave for a meeting. That would have been that, except later that evening, long after dinner, I stopped into The White Hart and, lo and behold, the same woman was there with two of her female friends. We talked like old pals. Eventually her friends drifted away, we went to her apartment, and the rest, as they say, was history. Very pleasant history.
She was not a gold-digger nor a pro, just a nice English girl who was, for whatever reason, interested in a middle-age American.
