Help my Germany Itinerary!

I desperately need help in finalizing my itinerary! I only have 10 days in Germany and I don't particularly enjoy spending less than two nights in one place (I prefer three in the larger towns/cities), so I need to cut out one or two of the following towns. I am travelling by train, so I am also trying to figure out the most convenient ordering of stops (please help with that too!). Here are my choices:
Fussen, Munich, Regensberg, Bamberg, Wurzberg, Rothenberg. THANKS for any advice you can offer!
Fussen, Munich, Regensberg, Bamberg, Wurzberg, Rothenberg.

My advice would be the following:

1. Munich 5 days

Two full days for Munich and then a day trip to Fussen and a day trip Regensberg. Fifth day at Dachau or over to Salzburg.

2. Two days in Rothenberg

3. One day to cruise the Rhine from Mainz to Cologne and back and spend the night in Koblenz

4. One day to train the Mosel stopping in Cichem and staying in Trier, the oldest city in Germany.

5. Last day to return to your departure city.

Just a thought

US

Melissa, what city are you flying in/out of? If Frankfurt, I would recommend catching a train to Munich for 4-5 days and then head back North to Rothenburg/Warzburg, etc.

Regensburg might be a bit far for a day trip from Munich - but would be a good choice for two days.

When I flew into Frankfurt, the first thing I did was go to the hotel I was staying before my flight out and checked in one piece of luggage with a change of clothes, so I didn't have to lug it around on the train.

Enjoy your trip and remember me when you eat a pretzel.

According to www.raileurope.com, it's 1-1/2 hrs. travel time from Munich to Regensburg and there are trains leaving hourly starting at 6:48 AM.

Melissa, Betty's right about the time to get to Regensburg. What I should have said in my previous post is that Regensburg might be too much for a day trip. It is a preserved medieval town that's hard to get a feel for in a short amount of time.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! Bill, I initially planned on starting from Munich, but I've since realized that some of these places are easy to reach from the Frankfurt airport. My main goal is to see a few of these places in depth without lengthy travel between stops, without too many train changes and without backtracking. THANKS again for any more helpful advice!
