Help needed Iceland itinerary
Hi,
I would need someone who has been already in Iceland and/or has done a similar tour to tell me if the below is possible and if I would have enough time to spend "outside" the car...
Comments, suggestions and corrections are more than welcome.
We'll be 2 and we'll be arriving in Iceland on the 3rd of June and flying out on the 12.
This would be the itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrival late evening and night in Keflavik
Day 2 - Half a day in the Blue Lagoon and afternoon to spend around (suggestions?). Night in Keflavik
Day 3 - Golden Circle. Night in Skogar
Day 4 - Full day to spend hiking in the Skaftafell Park, night at the Hvoll Hostel (should be closed to the park...)
Day 5 - "Free" day exploring the East fjords (suggestions?) Night at Seydisfjordur
Day 6 - Drive to Myvatn. Hiking/spending time there. Night somewhere around the lake.
Day 7- Day exploring/Hiking the Jökulsárgljúfur Park. Night around there or in Husavik
Day 8 - Big drive back. Night in Borgernes
Day 9 - Reykjavik. Night flight back.
Thanks
Davide

A few comments:
2nd day: Check out reykjanes.is for some travel ideas near the Blue Lagoon. The area is called Reykjanes.
5th day: It is a long trip so you'll probably be spending a lot of time in the car but the eastern fjords are impressive and Seydisfjordur is beautiful.
6th, 7th day: I would read up on the area: http://www.visitnortheasticeland.is/
8th day. You are of missing out on some of best parts in Iceland (Westfjords and Snaefellsnes) but that is for another trip. You could also take a shortcut inland (if the car is ok): Kjalvegur (http://www.nat.is/travelguideeng/plofin_kjolur.htm)

If you are staying at the Blue Lagoon then you need a car if you want to visit the surrounding area. The Reykjanes peninsula isn't a part of the ring road so there are new things to see there: http://visitreykjanes.is/

I would go to Reykavik the night you arrive and stay there your second day and enjoy the city. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time near or at the Blue Lagoon.
Then do the Blue Lagoon on the way to the airport on departure day.

Few good ideas to save money and enjoy Iceland better.
I went to the blue lagoon, but i also went to a place called the Earth Baths and it is close to Myvatn, I would prefer the second one over the blue lagoon any day, also the blue lagoon overcharges tourists. They have some deal that if you pay with an icelandic card you get 50% off.
Also renting a car can be ridiculously expensive. I would look at www.comparecarrentals.is or just walk in to a carrental and try to deal the price, the prices are not as fixed as many people think. I rented a car with them and they ended up booking a lot more for me.
I would deffenately recomend staying at seydisfjordur, it is a very romantic village.
I guess this comment is to late but i would not spend more then one night in Keflavik, I would rather go partying in Reykjavk or if you dont want to party just spend more nights in reyjavik.
Hope this helps.
