Djuna is correct! Watchout for walking on any uneven surface in Danskos. I wear clogs all the time since I am on my feet for work. They are great for standing, but when walking you risk the ankle turnover that all clog owners are familiar with.

Yay for Clarks! The most comfortable shoes for walking, and their Artisan collection has some very cute styles. I once wore my basic Clarks (Pecans) on a spontaneous hike in the woods because I didn't have any hiking boots or running shoes with me. I was perfectly comfortable and supported, even scrambling over roots and rocks.

Have a great trip Luckie16!

I must have been mistaken when I thought luckie16 specified seeking at least a 1 inch walking shoe for ladies that were accostomed to wearing heels as opposed to flats.

I have to admit that I was thinking like luckie16 last year before my trip to Tuscany. I always wear high heels of all styles. I like heels, but in many cities, the cobblestones make it difficult to walk in them. Wedge heels are better for this. Just bought some great wedge sandals from Fratelli Rosetti's Flexa range; these are always extremely comfortable.

I was thinking like luckie16 last year before my trip to Italy. I always wear high heels of all styles and like to be fashionable. So, I took some really comfortable, well broken in, good-looking Italian sandals with relatively high heels (2&quot that I have worn for hours while shopping, etc. with no discomfort. They were fine until I had to hurriedly traipse back and forth across Florence due to tightly scheduled reservations, and when trying to negotiate the steep streets of Cortona. Florence resulted in the soles of both heels being painfully blistered. I thought I was going to kill myself trying to walk downhill in Cortona. I also saw someone have a serious fall while trying to negotiate a hilly portion of Montepulciano. It was at those times that I wished for sturdy walking sandals, ugly or not. I am going back again in June so yesterday I purchased a pair of moderately ugly but very comfortable Clarke sandals and a pair of sandal type sneakers - can't remember the brand. I am counting on foot comfort and support for day tripping this year. However, will take those well-loved Italian sandals again for evening when we go out for dinner, etc. One thing for sure, pack some moleskin for blister emergencies. Hope this helps.

I know they're not designed as travel shoes, but I've actually found Steve Madden shoes to be the most comfortable for my small, high-arched feet.

I have 3 pairs (one wedge sandal & two strappy, platform heels), all of which I've comfortably walked and danced miles in. I actually outwalked a boyfriend one night on the 4-inch platforms, yet my feet get tired in Pumas after about an hour.

I think the secret is in the rise. I always buy heels with a slight platform, so the weight is more evenly distributed, but they still make your legs look nice.
