Help with itinerary to Eastern Europe! (have 3 kids)
Hey guys,
you are the greatest-and your feedback helps more than you know. a while ago i posted about going to Italy and France, but we have changed our itinerary to Eastern Europe. so i have several question.
1. what is the best and cheapest city to fly into?
2. is august a good time to go?
3. what cities in Eastern Europe are a must?
4. we have 3 kids (ages 8,10,12)-so is there something that would be interesting for them as well?
5. what method of transport to use to get around?
we have 3 weeks for that vacation and are very flexible in terms of where to stay. Please help us plan this vacation!!!

Might you narrow down the choices a bit ? It depends. I often fly into Munich but I've been no farther East than Hungary. Prague would seem a must & with that you could also easily include Vienna & Budapest (even Venice)or venture north to Poland. I would try to include Prague & venture from there.

Why don't you at least tell us which countries/cities you are considering? "Eastern Europe" is a pretty big place, and fwiw, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic are considered to be Central Europe. Soooo, are you thinking Prague? Or Bucharest? Or Moscow?

hi,
to narrow cities down-Prague, vienna, budapest, maybe some other interesting city.
Mikeyb,
to answer you question-my husband and i did go to Paris and Amsterdam last year. it was a great trip, although for some reason i was not as impressed with Paris-maybe because i have been there already, though without my husband.
when we got to Amsterdam, our trip went from great to AWESOME. it was one of the most beautiful places, we had the greatest little hotel, there were a ton of things to do and ton of places to see-so we LOVED it!! i cant wait to go back!

Just a suggestion. We did this trip in 1997.
You can fly into Berlin for a few days, maybe a day trip to Potsdam, then night train to Prague for a few more days then a night train into Salzburg for a couple days and a 2 1/2 hour train ride to Vienna for a few days and then perhaps a boat trip up the Danube to Budapest and fly home from Budapest.
Depends on how much time you have as to how much time in each city. The very most fun place for the kids will be Salzburg of course. You can do the Sound of Music tours and eat in the restaurants that do all the Sound of Music stuff. We did and it was great fun.

Whoopss, I hit post too quickly there.
You can also fly but sometimes it gets expensive. You can look here and maybe gear your trip around these flights,etc...
