Honeymoon in Italy

I am planning a honeymoon in April of 2008 and being the compulsive person that I am, I am trying to put together a plan. I have never used a travel agent before so I dont' know if that is a good option. We are going for 2 weeks and having never been to Italy before, we of course want to see everthing! I want the honeymoon to be relaxing and not feel rushed everywhere so we narrowed down the list to visit Venice, Rome, Amalfi Coast and Taormina. Does anyone have any suggestions on these places? Are they the good for first time visitors? Can we do all of it in 2 weeks? Any info is greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Congratulations! I went to Italy in '05 on my honeymoon and it was wonderful! You will both love it. You do not need to use a travel agent - so many resources on the internet - very easy to be independent. I understand your desire to see everything. I was the same way. But, just realize that you can't. Having more to see is just an excuse to go back again! Where are you flying in and out of? I would recommend you fly into Rome and out of Venice (or Milan), if possible. Otherwise, you'll have much travel time to and from Venice. Rome is a MUST, especially for a first time visitor. There is so much to do and see you will enjoy it. Take 1/2 day to explore the neighborhood of Trastevere and go see the Colloseum at night.

I am thinking of flying into Venice(Delta and Alitalia fly direct) and out of Rome (via connection through Palermo or Catania since we will end the trip in Sicily since Sicily is a must for my fiancee). Thanks for the tips! And I think I will forgo the travel agent-it is so much fun to book on your own!

I would agree. My husband and I honeymooned in Italy in October 2005. We booked everything with the help of this forum and tripadvisor. We flew in to Rome and out of Venice. We visited Rome, Florence, Positano and Venice in 2 and a half weeks. You really only need 2 days in Venice, in my opinion. Check out Locanda Orseolo in Venice. It was our favorite B and B. www.locandaorseolo.com
