Would love recommendations of a centrally located hotel in Krakow of a 4/5 star quality. The grand looks okay as well as the Amadeus and the Copernicus. Does anyone have any feedback on any of these hotels or any better ones? Thanks!

Try the "Saski". It is next to the Grand. They have different classes of rooms. Their elevator is worth the visit to ride in it!

I think those are the main ones at the very top level which you've named -- I can recommend highly (with one caveat) the Pod Roza, however. It has a slightly better location, I think (just a block or so off the main square) and was just wonderful -- beautiful large room and bathroom, every modern amenity you might want (minibar,hair dryer, TV, etc) plus an elevator. It had a four-poster bed, parquet floors, and the staff was outstanding (efficient, friendly). <BR><BR>My only caveat is that the bed's mattress was very very firm. If you like a super-firm mattress, it might be fine, but even though I don't think of myself as that picky, it really was almost too hard for me to be comfortable. The pillow was okay, it was just the mattress. I loved Krakow and can't wait to go back, but even though I loved that hotel for everything else, I'm not sure I'd stay there again.<BR><BR>Some hotels in that part of Europe have mainly twin beds for some reason (a German friend of mine said that was the norm, even for married couples at home), but the Pod Roza did have true double beds (maybe queen, I forget as I was alone, but it was not two twins pushed together). Price was quite reasonable for the quality of hotel, as I recall (maybe US$125), although Krakow is a cheap city.

Here is another recommendation for the Pod Roza. We returned from Poland and the Czech Republic on 10/31. While in Krakow we stayed at the Pod Roza. You can't beat the location. Also, our room was very large; it was more like a suite, with a sitting room, foyer, large bedroom and modern bath. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was very helpful and professional. Although we didn't eat dinner in the restaurant, we did stop in the bar each night for drink before retiring, and thought it had a nice atmosphere. You will certainly enjoy Krakow no matter where you stay.

hey, Carroll -- how did you feel about the mattresses at Pod Roza? Did you think they were very hard? I really liked that hotel so much and would like to stay there again, so I'm wondering if all the mattresses are the same or not, and maybe I just got unlucky. It wasn't an old mattress, though, as I pulled back the sheets to look at it to figure out why it was so hard.<BR><BR>RW -- sorry, do not know about the guesthouse except that address is very near the Pod Roza so I can say the location is excellent.

Christina, our mattress was firm but not hard. It was very comfortable, so I would say you were just unlucky with yours. By the way, it was your recommendation on another post that put us on to the Pod Roza and the Maxmilian in Prague. Thanks!

Stay at the Saski. My daughter and I were there last October. Had a large room with foyer and bathroom. Breakfast buffet was wonderful and big. They held our luggage for no charge when we went on an overnight to a nearby small town. I also have had another friend stay there and he also highly recommends it. Very helpful staff, too.

Robert, I stayed at the Guesthouse a few years back - it was fine, had own bathroom. Bed was fine, clean rooms good value.

Good alternative to a hotel is a private apartment in Krakow - not only it costs less it also allows you to prep food yourself so you do not need to pay extra for that cup of tea or coffee...<BR><BR>Check out this place which got some good reviews:<BR>http://www.sodispar.home.pl/
