Hotel Recommendations - Marais
Recommendations for a hotel in the Marais District would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I are going in late March. We are looking for a quiet, romantic place under $200.
She has had good experiences at the Places des Vosges but I want to come up with some other options.
Thanks!
Daniel

I am in the same kind of predicament!
Have you thought about renting an apartment? I have been finding some good options on VRBO and others.
Maybe this is something you might like? http://iloveparisapartments.com/a_huchette.htm
I haven't stayed there, don't know anything about it...but it looks positively gorgeous! Three of us are hoping to go to Paris in May 2008 and I think this apartment will be on the top of our list.
Just another option?
Have a wonderful time!

Bonjour
Maybe Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais - http://www.carondebeaumarchais.com.
This apartment is spacious and €800 to €1000 per week - http://www.albertine.org. Haven't stayed there but at €150 a night it has to be a bargain.

We stayed last fall in Hotel Saint Louis Marais. LOVED the location on a real quiet street but within walking distance to so much (though I also confess, we love to walk -- even walked to the Eiffel Tour from there). Near Metro stops too. The hotel gets mixed reviews on various sites. We liked it, found it quiet and comfortable. The room was small, but we weren't really there for much aside from sleep anyway and I understand there are larger ones available.

I would recommend renting an apartment, you feel much more like a real Parisian, you can save money on the hotel and spend more on the restaurants and shopping, and you're in your own place. I recently rented an apartment with www.specialapartments.com and they were really helpful and the apartment was great. Have a good trip

Hi dpdny,
I *think* I remember you from the Africa board. I'm staying at the Place des Vosges over Easter--good to hear your wife liked it. Does she have any specific comments about it, room preferences, anything?
We also strongly considered the Bretonnerie but they didn't have the rooms we wanted for our dates. http://www.hotelbretonnerie.com/

I agree about Bretonnerie; some of their rooms are very atmospheric. Not sure about price ranges but also look at St. Merry:

Thanks all for your input. Perhaps I am too cautious to pursue the apt. option but I will certainly explore it.
And yes, Leely, I do frequent the Africa board. I was hoping to squeeze in trip to Zambia but my wife is expecting our first child so our last "childless" hurrah will have to be Paris. Not that I am complaining, mind you.... No specifics on the Places des Vosges except that it was a good experience and it is in a wonderful location. We may end up there if they have a room.
