Around Upper Street it is posh yuppy/professional/media metropolitan, antique shops, smart cafés and restaurants and so on. There are some very expensive properties in the residential streets (the Blairs are said to be annoyed that they had to sell their house when they moved into Downing Street, because what they got £675,000 for in 1997 now fetches over £2 million). There's a rather more fun and run-of-the-mill street market by the Angel crossroads and tube station, and some areas of relative deprivation the nearer you get to Kings Cross one way and Hackney the other.<BR><BR>There are some hotels there, as there's a popular conference centre, and good transport links to other parts of London.<BR><BR>

While visiting Londong at few years ago, we stayed in a flat in Islington, just off Upper High Street. As we walked from the Angel tube stop along High Street to our flat, the neighborhood gradually improved. This is a well-to-do residential area, as the previous poster noted, with restaurants, pubs and theaters. We even had fun at the "jumble sale" at the local church on High Street!
