I just purchased 2 tickets on Trenitalia.....Question

Hi,

With much worry and trepidation we headed to the Trenitalia site to purchase some tickets. Now I am wondering though...

Will they check the name on our order to our ID? I ask because DW and I do not have the same last name, but I purchased both tickets with my registration.

This is probably nothing, but I just wanted to double check.

We'll we worried for nothing! The luck gods appeared to be shining and we had no problems (though we had the benefit of MichealT's excellent thread advice - thank you Michael).

So I have my little print out - I just bring it to the ticket window or do we just get on the train?

Thanks

In my experience, no, they do not check IDs.

Hi N,

They only want to ensure that you are the person who bought the tickets.

No other names are required.

If you have tickets on an ES* train, that is all you need, as it is good for that train only.

Otherwise: From the website
"You must use the Reservation Code (PNR) to pick up at self-service ticket machines in stations tickets purchased online. The PNR code is activated only after the ticket has actually been paid for".

You can also pick up at ticket counters.

Remember to punch your ticket before getting on the train.

Enjoy your visit.

PS,

Bring the same cc that you used to buy the tickets. They might ask for it.

Thanks Guys!

So just to clarify....since our train is Eurostar Italia we can just get on the train? If it was some other kind of train we would need a PNR code (which I don't see on my ticket) and would need to see a ticket booth agent or a self-serve machine correct?

For any kind of train we need to punch it in a machine before we get on....we just stick our printed online ticket into a machine slot -yes?

Did you select the ticketless option?

If so, you should have a pnr code, and you just get on the train & show your printout to the conductor.

If not, you still have to pick up your tickets at the station. You can just go to one of the ticket machines.

Either way, you don't validate Eurostar tickets.

Congrats for being able to buy tickets on the Trenitalia website. I have been trying for days, make it all the way to putting in my cc#, and each time it says I have been denied. %&#($U#*&$#()$&#*()!!

I officially give up. I'll just buy my tickets when I get to Italy.

What is your secret?

Hmmm. I'm sure I selected the ticketless option....but no, no PNR number. I printed off the PFD ticket it has a bar code.

I followed MichealT's advice and completed the following steps:

1. I called Visa 1st to let them know to expect the charge.

2. I registered then CHANGED my password as per the link on the email they sent me (right away).

3. I selected a train and the time we wanted by clicking the shopping cart next to our choice.

4. We chose "Amica" fare and skipped the section regarding seat choice.

5. We clicked continue and once we put in our credit card number Toronto Dominion VISA asked me to verify the charge by entering my password, card# and the 3 digit code on the back of my card.

6. Then I printed off the page and the PFD format ticket.

That was it Johanna. I think maybe we were lucky as we've heard the site is very tempermental. Good Luck! We are buying most of our tickets when we get there - we just wanted to ensure one particular leg was covered.

Thanks for your help guys!

I should mention I DID find a PRN number (thank goodness becuase I've been advised I will be fined without this) - it was on the email they sent to me after my purchase and not on the PFD ticket I printed off.

I am glad I asked you guys - I would never have known about this!

Thanks,

Hi NT,

>since our train is Eurostar Italia we can just get on the train?

YES. The conductor will ask to see the printout and your passport. It doesn't matter who the other passengers are.

You do not need to stamp your printout.

If you buy tickets for trains that are not ES*, you have to stamp them.

Enjoy your visit.
