Is 3 days in Wales necessary?
Hola!
I'll be in the UK and Ireland for 3 weeks and I'm wondering if Wales warrents 3 whole days of my vacation or if maybe I should make it two days and just spend a day each in Cardiff and Conwy. If anyone's been to Wales, I'd love your advice!

vicky - that is like asking is 3 days in France necessary? Wales is a fabulous diverse country. Take as much time as you have. But if you only have 2 or 3 days why pick two places at totally opposite ends of it. Cardiff is on the south coast and Conwy is on the far north coast. The choice makes no sense. Is there some reason you selected those two places? There is more than enough in South Wales (around Cardiff) to fill three days, or in North Wales (around Conwy) to fill 3 days. So just decide which end you want to go and concentrate your time there.

Also the connection between the south and noth is time consuming because of the mountains between them.
We enjoyed the conwy area because of the rural tranquility. The only interesting thing for us in cardif was the castel.
Another option is to head to snowdonia national park. which is a nature reserve in the mountains and is closed to conwy.
or go to cardiff and an intersting plcace closer to it.

It's very easy to underestimate distances and especially travel time when looking at maps of Great Britain. Without understnding about mountains and road conditions, it's posisble to think of the north-south strip as a short one. But it isn't! When calculating travel times, you have to estimate an average speed of 30 MPH! Vicky, you need to think about what you want to do in Wales; plenty of people have spent entire 3-week vacations there.

We spent two full weeks in North Wales with the exception of one day in Cardiff. Many places we have yet to see. Wales is fascinating. So many castles and people who are just that little bit different from the Irish and English to make them interesting. Wonderful history---learn something about it before you go.
