Is it me???
I keep seeing posts that ask for advice and request that you e-mail it to them. Doesn't that take away from the open/public forum of these boards. I think the greatest thing about these boards is sharing the info with everyone else. I am not having the best day possible so maybe I am just out there today??

Some of us have files with tons of information that are huge, and it just isn't possible to write it all down here on the forum. Requesting the information is just more efficient.<BR><BR>Hope your day gets better.<BR><BR>

Hi Gary...I have seen you post on here several times, and I know you are from Ft. Laud. I live up the road in Boca. There is a great comfort shoe store at our mall here called "The Walking Store". I noticed you inquired about that yesterday. Hope that helps some.

Some of us have hundreds of pages of material about something being asked. A few fodorites have even written travel books. It is impossible to post more than a few words here - so when a file is too much info for a post it only makes sense to do it via e-mail. In the old days -- pre-rehistration -- e-mail addresses were displayed so anyone could correspond and follow up "behind the scenes" - but now it is harder.

I've seen a few posts lately like you are describing, Gary, and I think you are right. I know you aren't referring to asking someone to post books or long files, just simple questions. I think some people do this because they don't want to bother coming back to Fodors to look for the answer or read it -- kind of like they think they are too busy and this is an on-call answer service. I think sometimes it is because someone isn't that familiar with this board and is afraid they'll miss the answer or won't find it. <BR><BR>You are right in that most advice on here can be helpful to many others, currently and in the future, and it is most beneficial to post it publicly. This is not an internet forum phenomenon limited to this board, though, I've seen internet FAQs for etiquette or customs on various forums telling people not to do that because it comes across the wrong way and can seem selfish, etc. One board I used to post on really lets people have it when they post something like that (ie, sometimes it is real blatant -- "can you email me the response because I don't want to take the trouble to check back" and they don't even say thanks).<BR><BR>Anyone who wants a personal delivery service can tactfully make the same request a lot better by saying something like "if it's not too much trouble, can you email me a copy of the response as well as posting it because I want to make sure I don't miss it". This is a lot different than the above example.<BR><BR>

Wren, Hello neighbor and thanks for the info about "The Walking Store". I will definetly check it out.<BR> Janis & Lorac1127 I can understand if it is large files.<BR> Christina, thank you for explaining it so well and you hit it right on the head.<BR> My day is going much better. I live in Fort Lauderdale in the Historic district in the downtown area. I am putting in a brick patio/cookout area. I have been trying for 6 weeks today to get a permit to do this minor job. It had me so frustrated. Dealing with our Hisorical (hysterical) Society is very taxing on ones nerves. To make it worse my home was built in 1976..............

Round Rock out near the Dell campus in Lake Forest, a new subdivision, near Forest Creek GC. <BR><BR>We used to live in Boca Del Mar and it was a great place even though it got hot and humid. Then about November the population tripled and we ventured out only for work, church and shopping.<BR><BR>Had many good memories, but the season can be "taxing."<BR><BR>US<BR><BR>

One other reason I see for a "private" conversation... I'm not willing to bad-mouth a city, hotel, or restaurant publicly, because after all it is based only on my own single personal experience. BUT I am happy to share what happened directly with someone who is considering going to that same place or with a similar concern.

I'm sure the rest of the readers will be thrilled to read this but this is for US:<BR><BR>I lived in the Boca area '86-'89. Actually, I worked in Boca and lived in Boynton Beach - that's how far from millionaire I am.<BR><BR>Been back home in Wisconsin since then. Never been to Texas.
