Is it worth going to the Alhambra?
We will be spending 10 days in Spain. The bulk of which will be in Sevilla with a definite trip to Rhonda. Is it worth spending two of our precious days in Granada at the Alhambra or should we add to the "White Towns" or Sevilla (or perhaps Portugal) Anne

Actually just got back from Spain on Wednesday but haven't had a chance to do a trip report yet. Briefly, yes the Alhambra is a must. But one day in Granada is sufficient. If you stay in the Parador (we did and loved it), you can take the tour from their lobby at 10:20 AM. Book the tour when you book the Parador. The tour is over at 1:30. You can take a siesta and still have time for the rest of the sights (church and tomb). We saw the gypsy area in the evening when we went for Flamenco at one of the local 'tourist' shows. No real shopping to speak of, EXCEPT the Mephisto Store (1/2 the price of US). Save room in the suitcase. You can do the store on the way back from the church and then take a cab back up the hill. Skip the Alhambra bus as you still have to walk uphill to the Parador (they can't get that close by bus but the cabs go to the door). Don't know when you are going, but Ronda and Granada are hot, hot, hot!!!! Seville was 106F this week.

Another "must" vote for the Alhambra. On my very first trip to Europe, we drove through the mountains at night, arriving in Granada around 2:00 a.m. (never again!). Next morning at breakfast we looked up at those same mountains and realized what folly it had been to traverse them in the dark. We toured the Alhambra, marvelled at all the intricate tilework and stonemasonery, and came to understand why Granada was the last stronghold of the Moors in Spain - if you lived there you wouldn't want to give it up either.
Another plus is the mountain air in Granada - it really sharpens your senses, and makes all your meals more enjoyable.
Go - even if it's just for the day.
