Is Piazza del Popolo too far away from main tourist attractions in Rome?

The metro is accesible with a wheelchair in the outskirts stations of the city (the newer ones) but not at all at the central ones.
I don't think Piazza del Popolo is a bad location but I would be more comfortable at a hotel (I have walking problems, not in a wheelchair though) , I would never trust on lifts in private buildings, if they broke..they don't repair them as quick as a hotel (that's not a Rome feature, it is everywhere) and I don't like to stress myself on holidays.
Cobblestones are not the most confortable thing..but hey, you are in Rome...just take it easy and enjoy. If you get tired...sit on a cafe and sip a cappuccino !! Not everything is ticking monuments out of a list
I've been twice in Rome..and probably have visited what other people visits in a couple of days...but I enjoyed it, you just have to do it "your way" and don't think about "must sees".
