Hi H,

Enter the addresses at www.mappy.com and change "express" to "pedestrian".

The TGV station is in the industrial zone outside of the city.

Not clear from what OP said but la Magnaneraie seems 4*hotel in Avignon-Villeneuve.

In that case, Avignon-TGV is a better station for getting to Villeneuve-lez-Avignon.

We stayed at La Magnaneraie in 2004, and it's a fair walk from Avignon if you're thinking of that. The hotel is up on a hill, making it even more of a hike--best to take a cab the first time and then, if you want, work out a bus schedule. It's a lovely hotel with beautiful gardens, BTW. The restaurant is a bit pricey.

Thanks! Actually, I plan on using both cabs and buses depending on the weather etc.
I was curious in terms of both arriving and departure from the train.
We will be leaving by train from the centre station (got a good price on prems so could not resist). I am hoping that a cab over there at that hour won't be a horrendous traffic jam.
Likewise, wondering when I arrive if I should taxi from tgv or centre. Merci.

It's actually easiest to come into the TGV station. The cab will avoid traffic go over the bridge closest to the station to get to Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, which keeps you away from the busy ring road just outside the walls.

hellokittie, we took a taxi from our hotel in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon to Avignon TGV in 2003. I can't remember what it cost, but it didn't strike me as expensive.

One thing I do want to mention, though, is that we were booked on a morning TGV to Paris. We checked out and asked the hotel desk clerk to call a cab. He told us that it was sometimes difficult to get a cab on short notice in Villeneuve and suggested that next time we reserve the taxi the evening before.

As it turned out, we had no difficulties, but as someone who hates to be late for a train (or a plane, for that matter), I tend to remember that kind of advice.

Have a great trip.

Thanks for the good advice; we are leaving from the centre station-I hope its not too congested to get to on a weekday morning! We will arrive at the tgv station-do you think we will have trouble getting a taxi from there? Thanks. PS PB, any restaurant suggestions?

hellokittie, I have caught a taxi quite a few times at Avignon TGV. Just follow the signs for taxis after you get off the train. Only once has there been a taxi waiting when we arrived. All the other occasions we joined a small queue and waited for five or ten minutes as empty taxis pulled up to the stand. We once shared a cab with another visitor who was going to a hotel near ours in Avignon.

I don't think you'll have too much trouble getting from Villeneuve-lès-Avignon to the downtown station in Avignon. I'd book the cab for about an hour before train time (I like to have a fair-sized cushion for these things).
