Istanbul to Ferry in Marmaris
We will be traveling to Rhodes after visiting Turkey and would like to take the 90 minute ferry from Marmaris. From Izmir, it's nearly a 4 hour drive to the port. From the Dalaman airport, it should only take less than 2 hours (according to Google maps). Has anyone flown into the Dalaman airport and navigated to the port from there? Is there a bus? Or must one rent a car and drive on your own? Thanks!

I believe that I took the bus from Cesme to Izmir and then the bus from Izmir to Bandirma and then ferry to Istanbul. It was faster than taking the bus all the way to Istanbul. Not sure if that is what you are asking about.

There's a Havaş bus from Dalaman airport to Marmaris:

It is a much better idea to fly to Dalaman and take a shuttle or a taxi to Marmaris from there instead of getting to Marmaris from izmir airport unless you wish to visit Ephesus and Herakleia on the way to Marmaris.
Actually, you have another option from Dalama. That is, to take a much shorter transfer to Fethiye and take the hydrofoil from Fethiye to Rhodes. I do not know how long that takes or the difference in cost, but many prefer this option. I am sure you can check on the web.
The Dalaman-Fethiye option will also give you the chance to see some small sites within Fethiye and the natural beauty of Olu Deniz about half hour out of Fethiye if you wish as well as the deserted Greek village Kaya Koy, which is the location of the well known book, "Birds Without Wings".
