Possibly twitter/texting afficionados who are unable to adapt to other media? Or don't see why they should, forgetting that the primary reason for spelling and grammar is to be clearly and easily understood, especially when you need an answer to a question. We're lucky people use words instead of "U" and "2".

"cab" verb
past tense: cabbed; past participle: cabbed
travel in a taxi. "Roger cabbed home"

In my world, if you can "cab" somewhere, you can "tube" somewhere. Why anyone cares or is upset at this usage...well, that's another story.

Old but still true:

The fact that you "can" do something doesn't mean you "should" do it.

Good of of you to have become an Edinburgh fan.
I need to go back.

I am not even English but I hate tubing or training or Cabbing or holidaying.
Hey should I tube then train to holiday in Scotland ?

If you wish to make English easier I can help but when I do no body understands me so I guess it makes me cringe to see that locals have the right to alter their language.

Since we are at it the French have a wonderful expression which is chier dans le tube that I have never fully understood but that I happily use. Not yet literally but when I am in London I always use the expression a lot more.

There is also other declinations like chier dans la colle but that is not the topic.

Quite a few bike, of course. That's the thing about language: where's the boundary between a custom and a rule?

.... complete with peacocks singing at a wedding with bag pipes.

Who knew that peacocks could sing, let alone play the bagpipes. The peacocks in Italy just screech.

"Welcome Home" Tom & Tracy!!! So happy your proactive purchase of train tickets saved the day in yet another frustrating airline strike. We, too, thought the Scottish people were extremely friendly. We'll stay tuned for more after that whiskey runs out.

And, FWIW, we think "tubed" communicates effectively!

And then there is tubing:

From Wikipedia: Tubing (also known as inner tubing, "bumper tubing" or even toobing) is a recreational activity where an individual rides on top of an inner tube, either on water, snow, or through the air. The tubes themselves are also known as "donuts" or "biscuits" due to their shape.

Searching, I found the famous Greek R&B/Soul band called Tuber. Have recorded such great hits as: Desert Overcrowded, Sex and Depression and finally Cause We Didn't Find Our Way.

Glad you made it home despite the mess at Heathrow. Looking forward to your report. And we in DC in fact do Uber and sometimes cab it. Heading to London next week and will "take the tube" - no tubing it, I promise.

>>maybe there are people who "uber"!<<

And those who overdo it would be uberubering, I suppose.

New Yorkers cab it all the time. It's been a verb for years. "We cabbed it to Brooklyn." "No point in cabbing it, it's quicker to walk." "Might as well cab it since there are 4 of us."

Tu vélotes ? Has not yet made it into French.
Nous roulons encore à vélo.
Nous prenons le train.
Nous ne voiturons pas.

But we are civilised.
