Italy in Sept or Oct

I have the opportunity to go to Italy (Rome,Florence, Venice) for about 10 days in either Sept or Oct. I realize that weather is unpredictable - but based on your experience and knowledge is one of these months preferable? Thanks for your help.<BR>RMH

Either month would be great. I think I would prefer October since it will be cooler. The downside is that October may be rainer (though I don't remember that from this past October...my memory could be failing me).

We were there in late September, early October, 2001. The weather was nearly perfect, sunny and cool. We had a half day of rain in Venice and an overnight rain in Tuscany. As you say, the weather is unpredictable but it is an ideal time for Italy.

early-mid Oct is an incredible time to go. Beautiful, sunny skies still warm in the day but sweater weather at night.

Both months are great....but there are a lot fewer tourists in October.
