Italy Travel With A Mixed Age Group
Hi everyone:
I'm hoping the group can assist me in planning my first trip to Italy on a modest budget. The traveling group consists of three generations of ladies: 80 and 82 year-old sisters, a late 40's daughter, and three lovely granddaughters ages 16 to 21 year olds, and me the lone balding male. The seniors are returning home to the Island of Ischia where they were born and haven’t visited home in over 30 years, and our family has offered to assist them. We plan on a week to 10 days on Ischia, but also plan on visiting some of the finer points of Italy: Rome, Vatican, Florence, Tuscany, etc. The difficulty arises in traveling with a mixed age group…seniors in getting around, inquisitive middle-agers, and active boy-watching adolescents. Would anyone venture to make suggestions on modest accommodations in and around the above mentioned cities or suggest B&B, Farm/Vineyards, or possibly staying out of the major cities and traveling into the city for sightseeing only? Any particular sights that are a must see/visit? We are plan to travel mid-June and need to finalize the accommodations and flights quickly. Thank you in advance for your kind recommendations and time.

I'm speechless and afraid I don't have any specific suggestions right now, but this sounds like one of the most fantastic trips ever discussed here!
On second thought, one suggestion. If you are spending 10 days on Ischia I'd look for an apartment. There are many there.
And you mention a lot of other places. What is the total length of time you'll be in Italy? Also are you the husband of the 40's daughter? Just trying to figure out the logistics of rooms and pair ups.

Dear SensoryWordsmith,
Wow! Sounds like the foundation for memorable trip!
Based on what you have shared thus far, it seems like a total of 14 to 17 days (7-10 Ischia & 7 for other).
I too will be traveling with 3 generations this spring; mother (72ish); dear hubby & I (mid 40ish); & my niece (moms grandchild) (14).
As DH & I have been to Rome & Venice before (principle base), this trip is for mom. Mom has always wanted to go to the Vatican.
If you've not been to any of your destinations, I highly recommend you stay in the central areas of Rome/Florence. In our case, I will mix up the museum tour (Scala Reale/Context) with relaxing/lounging and shopping. I'm also expecting to "sit for awhile" in areas that would be ok for my niece to roam. Give's her privacy but I can keep an eye. (I'm such a protective auntie).
Enough of my ramblings. I'm sure you will receive plenty of suggestion. In our case, we will be going the apartment route.
I hope you have a wonderful trip.

Hello again:
1) In response to "Author: Patrick," yes I am said husband of the late 40's daughter. Thank you for your kind words on our plans, I hope with everyone's gracious suggestions to fulfill my family's goals and dreams.
2) In response to "Author: delvino," your total of 14 to 17 days (7-10 in Ischia & 7 for other) is correct. Your trip equally sounds challenging, adventurous, and pleasant. Relax…typo's & grammatical errors to me in this type of forum indicate an individual's writing from the heart. Thank you for sharing, as well as for your suggestions.
