Lake Bled vs. Soca Valley
Hi all,
I'm in the final stages of putting together a week-long trip through Slovenia and am down to one question: Would 2 nights be better spent around Lake Bled, and one night in Bovec/Kobarid, or vise-versa? Which area merits more time and attention?
I'm traveling with my 70-something parents so our interests tend towards looking at great scenery and seeing historic sites and old towns (i.e. no white-water rafting for us). With the Soca Valley, it seems like one can easily cross over into Italy and see Udine, Gorizia and the surrounding region. With Bled, there's also Radovlijca and Lake Bohinj.
Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.

If you are in to history then stay 2 nights in Soca Valley. Kobarid has one of the best WWI museums, lots of other beautiful sites, Mangart Road is the highest in Slovenia, then you have Goriska Brda-wine country and also Italy nearby.

If it is not too late, I would agree with alaksander57. However, I much prefer Lake Bohinj to Lake Bled.Bled is OK for a few hours. When I first visited it in 1966 it was quiet and peaceful, on my last two visits, in 2011 and 2012, when my wife and I were spending a week in Bohinj, it was a tourist dump

I probably shouldn't comment, since I haven't seen the Soca Valley yet,,,,
That said, your parents might enjoy a visit to Bled's castle (with its stunning views!), a pletna ride on Lake Bled, and a drive around Lakes Bled and Bohinj. And OMG, you could all eat well in Bled! Just something to consider....

Thank you for all of your thoughts on this. It's a big help. Aleksander, we'll have to put the Topli Val on the list. I think we're going to stay at Dobra Vila Bovec after a couple nights at Hotel Triglav in Bled. But we'll do our best to give equal time to both places.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Just got back from visiting relatives in Kobarid and Ladra for 5 nights. Beautiful scenery, great restaurants and interesting museum. Took a ride to Bojev for lunch. Hiked part of the Historical Trail. Soca river is gorgeous.
