Leaving for Tuscany tomorrow (July 1)!!!
Now it's my turn. After waiting for 20 years, I am finally going to see David. Last year I saw the Sistine Chapel, which was #2 on my list of things. Although I am not a sentimental person, I was practically in tears when I saw the ceiling.
I can't wait to see David, which has been #1 on my list since I was a wee lass.
I would love to hear your experiences when you first saw him.

Try to see the "original" David if you can - the one outside the Uffizi (which I think is the copy) is surrounded by scaffolding (although you can still see the statue OK in all its glory!)

My younger sister saw the David in the '60's and always maintained that it was a life-changing experience for her. For some reason, I didn't share that sensation.
If I had it to do over, I think I'd make arrangements to visit the Accademia first thing in the morning, before my feet started to hurt!

Yes, you can rayoflight. I did it the other day. I don't have the number handy right now, but do a text search for "museum reservations" and you will see posts by Ira with all the contact info.
I researched both web and phone reservations, and the phone reservations were quite a bit cheaper. Also, they don't have to be paid until you get there.

Rayoflight104,
Ira gave this information for reservations:
"The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 1.60 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services"
I made reservations for Euro 11.50 per reservation. To give you an idea of the savings, the site I initially went to said Euro 17.00 per reservation.
All we have to do is get there 10 minutes prior to the reservation time and pick up the tickets.
Very convenient. When are you going?
