I in many ways rather more enjoy walking around London more than smaller regional towns as London has some great ethnic areas like Green St in the east end - walking down that (just to the north of the Upton Park Tube stataion) is like walking down a street in Pakistan - sari shops, Pakistani food snack bars, bakeries, restaurants - many folks in native garb, etc.

Though regional towns like Cambridge certainly does have some small ethnic areas very few save the Glasgows and Manchesters and Birminghams and London have such extesnive enclaves (remember Fox Noise recently said much of Manchester was a 'no go zone'!

(Go south from Upton Park Tube station on Green St and you get a more quintessential lower-class English feel - pubs and the West Ham FC stadium.)

dwd, stoke & Palenq -
Enjoyed reading your comments. We like a combination of cities and countrysides. We plan to spend 5 days in London, take train to Bath on day 6, tour Bath then pick up car on day 7 and spend 3 nights in Cotswolds, then last night in Windsor before we drive to the airport early the day of departure. We'll get a mix of both. I'm sure some of our time in London will be spent just wandering or sitting in one of the lovely parks.

For the traveler looking for a real ethnic area that is not seedy check out Green Street in London's east end.
