London on Sunday
We arrive on Saturday, and I was wondering what is there to do on Sundays? Any suggestions? Any festivals on Sunday 8/1?
Also, does anybody know of cheap clothing stores for teenagers? We are taking 2 and they want to go shopping. I know London tends to be pricey so, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Many shops are open in London on Sunday from about noon to 5 or 6 pm....few theatres have shows (the Lion King does have a Sunday matinee performance but that's about it)....a good day to do a London Walk....many restaurants are open too....if the weather is nice you can take a nice walk down south bank from Westminster to St. Paul's...lots of activities going on.....

Everything's open on Sundays- you could go to a museum, go shopping, whatever you want really.
Top Shop is a popular and inexpensive clothing chain. And depending on what your teenagers like, they might like Camden Market/Camden Lock- take the Northern Line up to Chalk Farm or Camden Town and walk south down Camden High Street.

With the exception of churches such as St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey the major tourist sites are open on Sundays. My favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon is to go to Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park to listen to all of the crazy speeches. Some of the speakers are hilarious and the hecklers are even funnier. BTW, this only happens on Sunday afternoons so don't look for it any other time of the week.

If you want to do what the locals do, that would be have "Sunday Lunch" in a decent pub - consisting of roasted meat, yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes and three veg -- perhaps accompanied by a pitcher of Pimm's ( Pimm's in summer only. )
The Albion in Islington, The Holly Bush in Hampstead are favorites of mine.
Also traditional on Sunday is to roam the Heath (Hampstead Heath). Or maybe a picnic in Regent's Park?

A London Sunday tradition is Speakers Corner - though IMO a shadow of what it once was when i first used to stop by here years ago it still is extremely famous - worth a short look whilst shopping on nearby Oxford Street.
You and your daughters may want to check out Carnaby Street for clothing shops.

Good idea about Carnaby St.and the back shopping streets behind Regents St. Definitely agree with the Camden idea, though you might not want to be in the massive crowd at the weekends (however it would be rather festival-like!) Do check it out. My friend and her daughter were in town and I regret terribly not taking them to Camden. We ran out of time. Portobello Rd. would be fun for the teenagers and for you - something for everyone.

Instead of Speakers' corner, head to Trafalgar Sq -- the Plinth is running until October and is much more interesting than most of the wing nuts at Speakers' Corner.
One problem about Sundays isn't sites being closed -- it is that many are more crowded than other days because besides all the tourists, lots of locals are out on family outings.
So I'd avoid the British Museum, the Tower of London and probably the V&A because they'll probably be chock a blok . . .
