London: Summer University Campus Accommodation for tourists

Has anyone stayed at a university campus in London during the summer months? What was your experience like?

I'm considering booking a twin room at the University of Westminister (Marlybone) for GBP 49 / room.

Thanks!

Hi schuler, I've never stayed at that particular one. However, I've stayed at one of the LSE dorms 2 summers ago. Here's a link to my review:

Fodorite 111op stayed there with his mom during the same time period. Fodorite WillTravel has stayed at one of the other dorms with her daughter a few years ago.

Here's the link to LSE dorms:

Staying in halls is cheap but usually relatively nice. Rooms will be small, often they have a sink but no private bathroom. The bathrooms are usually down the hall.

You can expect it to be clean and basic. There's almost always a small kitchen at the end of the hallway if you want to do some (basic) self-catering. It's a good way to save money!

Thanks for your replies.

YK: I checked out the website (and your trip report) to give me some more ideas. I think it was because of your report that I even came up with this idea of staying in dorms.

The University of Westminster is highly variable. Some bits of it are dingy, and some of its Halls of Residence are aimed at undiscriminating and penny-pinching students.

But Marylebone is mostly used by its business school, and its Hall of Residence is designed to be used for conferences and by businesspeople on short courses. They typically have far higher housekeeping demands than impoversished art students.
