London Used Bookstores! HELP

Hello Fodorites, <BR>I am asking for your help in locating a out of print book in London and someone who might be able to sell it to me. The book I am looking for is &quot;A Cook on the Wild Side&quot; by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. This is a companion book for his tv show &quot;A Cook on the Wild Side&quot;. It is published by Channel Four, and I already emailed them, they could not help me. I have looked everywhere on the internet and cannot find this book. Any Londoners or experts who can help??? this is a gift for my husband. Thanks and happy holidays...and yes, I did a google and mamma search... so please be kind in responding.

Well, I don't live in London, but I felt compelled to try to find it on a website. I know you tried web searches, so I apologize if this doesn't help at all. So far, the best I can come up with is a UK-based website that says they can track down any out-of-print book. You can email them:<BR><BR>http://www.bookshelfuk.com/<BR><BR>Also, the link below lists dozens of used book websites based in the UK, maybe one of those can help?<BR><BR>http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Publications/Books/Used_and_Rare/<BR><BR>Again, sorry this doesn't directly answer your question, but maybe one of these sites can search for you. I bunch of them seem to offer this service.<BR><BR>Karen

Karen, thanks I hadn't come across that website yet, but will try it. I wrote the original publisher 2 months ago and they suggested trying to find it thru out of print dealers. Evidently it was a very limited printing with a very small number of books printed and sold. I never thought I would have such a hard time finding this %^&amp;* book...MH

Karen, just inquired about my book, they appear to have a great selection. Don't know how that site never appeared in my hours of fruitless searching. She does have a Floyd book on her website that I may have to order. So thanks to Karen, even if they don't find my book, it is still a usefull site to bookmark. Any more responses????????????? see what happens when an expat gets tv???she goes crazy on brit cookery shows and loses her sanity thanks Sky!! is it friday yet?

I've done a few searches and can't find anything, but I can suggest a place which might be able to help.<BR><BR>The Cooks' Bookshop in Edinburgh is a great centre of second hand and new cookery books. It's owned and run by Clarissa Dickson Wright - she of the &quot; Two Fat Ladies&quot; - and she is often in the shop herself. It's well worth a visit if you're in Edinburgh - but if not, their phone number is +44 131 226 4445.

Thanks Keith, I will call them, since I am already living in Germany. I am desperate to find this book. I have spent hours searching and sending emails to rare/antique etc book dealers and no one has this book. The bane of my christmas existence....

Keith, just got off the phone with Clarissa and she doesn't have this book. It was ironic because someone had been in her shop this morning looking for the very same book. She told me that she hadn't seen this book in years and that I probably would not find it. I did put in an official request to locate it, though. That would make four requests with rare dealers in London and one in Edinburgh. This is becoming an exercise in futility....but the search continues.

Have you heard of Hay-on-Wye, the town in Wales in which vitrually every business in town, including the castle and movie theater, have been converted to used bookstores? (And most of the homes into B&amp;Bs.) Many of them will conduct searches and do business by mail. <BR><BR>Have you written to the book's publisher (Boxtree), or to the television network that developed the series that the book is based on?<BR><BR>http://www.hay-on-wye.com/
