Lost luggage in Italy
A connecting flight from Munich to Florence was cancelled 10/1/22. Lufthansa rerouted my wife and daughter to Venice, via Air Dolomiti. Their luggage hasn't been seen in seven days. I do not speak the language, but the Air Dolomiti site indicates at least one bag is in transit to where the women were staying at a villa, cooking school outside of Florence. This site hasn't changed. The women are now coming home without their luggage. What do we do? Whom do we contact to retrieve the bags and make a claim for compensation?

If the ticket is with Lufthansa I would keep on trying to work with Lufthansa and see where that gets you. If you have trouble getting through to the airline by normal means then use social media to ask for help, as airlines are often more responsive if there is a public notice about their shortcomings.

Was there a claim filed when they first noticed the bags were missing? Was it filed with the appropriate airline? I ask because you mentioned two airlines.
Compensation might be due here. If additional items (clothing and toiletries, for example) were purchased during the trip to replace lost items in baggage, receipts of those purchases will need to be submitted to supplement the claim.

Check that the bags have not arrived at the villa.
Check EU rules on compensation involving air travel. Then get in touch with the original airline (Lufthansa) and make a claim, citing the relevant rule if such a rule exists. Send a copy to Air Dolomiti. Keep all the original routing information as proof of legitimate claim. Good luck.

One bag delivered to a nearby airport near midnight of the ninth day after going missing. The other is DUE to be delivered to the owner's home around noon on the eleventh day after going missing. We'll believe it when we see it. Thanks for all the advice and tips.

Still, assuming they’re separate entities, it would still be interesting to know which & where. More information is a good thing generally speaking although I wouldn’t be surprised if no information was forthcoming from Lufthansa.
