Louisiana and New Orleans: our heart is with you!

Just saw the pictures last night on TV. Terrible! Our floods in Switzerland are very minor in the face of your disaster.

God bless all those victims.

Thank you for the kind thoughts, Schuler. The television images are pretty disturbing.

French friend just called to express sorrow at New Orleans and areas disaster and said that Chirac had offered assistance to help emergency situation - France has stuff and troops in Caribbean possessions like Martinique that are equipped to help in hurricanes. This was reported on the French TV news that Chirac is willing to send all help from nearby Caribbean as possible!

Could you imagine trying to move every person from a city to another location?

484,674 people live in New Orleans. Where do you put 484, 674 people? They say it may be a minimum of 3 months before thet can return home.

Add to Richardab's numbers all the people in Mississippi (Gulfport, Biloxi, etc.) who are also now without homes and all possessions.

Thanks, Schuler. I feel blessed, knowing I don't have the heartbreak so many of the hurricane victims are enduring. I hope our federal government does take whatever help other nations have to offer. We all gotta look out for each other, you know?

I add my thank you too shuler. This is a nightmare. But I know that Europe has had their problems also. I hope and pray everyone there is recovering in a timely manner.

Mother Nature has not been kind to our earth in the past months.

I wish that pray that our government would accept all help that is offered. Thank you for your thread. Best wishes to you.

Are any Fodor forum users directly affected?

In our flood situation, my children couldn't go to school for one day, but that was it. The clean up is going fairly well but now we are seeing pictures of homes and farms completely destroyed. Heartbreaking. The waters have receded and Switzerland is almost 100% back to normal. Almost.

Anyway, this is just a drop in the bucket next to Katrina's damage. I do pray that all those poor people will find the help they desperately need.

Thank you for your kind posting. I agree with merseyheart and LoveItaly and others - many areas in many countries have experienced hard times recently, and we all have to help each other as much as possible.

My thoughts and prayers are with those who are affected.
