MapQuest UK

We are renting a car for England, Ireland and Scotland. Is there a website that is an UK equivalent to America's "Mapquest.Com" which will print out directions for getting from one place to another?

Try the Automobile Association's website at www.theaa.com. You can print out routes there, and approximate travel times. There's also a lot of other helpful info. I'm sure there will be an equivalent to Mapquest, but I don't know what it is.

There's always www.mapquest.co.uk, and multimap.com has a directions function, as well as the AA

"mapquest.co.uk" is good and I also like to use "streetmap.co.uk" which is especially good for locating a Place of Interest (just type in a name) and has very detailed maps.

The best map/directions site for Europe that I know of is sponsored by Shell Oil, the site is http://www.shellgeostar.com<BR><BR>I've used it to get driving directions to friend's homes all over the UK and Ireland; it is comprehensive and very reliable.

when using mapquest.co.uk, be aware that sometimes the site gives you the SHORTEST route, as opposed to the EASIEST. <BR><BR>a pal once showed me his map from stevenage (north of london) to uxbridge (west of london) actually on the smaller roads through a lot of towns. i told him to just hop on the M25. longer, but a lot easier.

The AA site is the best. Mapquest gave me directions from my home in S London to Scotland which were pretty useless as they sent me via Central London and through the middle of Birmingham, when the M25 and M6 would have been a better option!

I'd second viamichelin.com. Lots of great features including toll totals (useful in Europe) and scenic routes or mostly motorways if you want speed. <BR>Really excellent!
