March in Amsterdam 1 week spring break
Hi,
Planning late March spring break 8 day vacation in Amsterdam with husband and 2 sons aged 15 & 17.
Do you think we should explore Amsterdam with day trips or plan a 2 city open jaw trip?
Thanks.

Amsterdam with day trips. But I'm partial
You might want to do two cities, for instance Amsterdam and Groningen, or do a spring break on the island of Texel, from Amsterdam.
There's more, much more to NL than Amsterdam and 8 days would give you ample time to set up somewhere else where it's interesting

Never a dull moment in Amsterdam itself - plenty of good walking along the canals, boat rides, tram rides, GREAT museums, people watching, historic buildings, funny buildings (Singel nr. 7 for example, see http://www.holland.com/global/touris...-amsterdam.htm), all kinds of food and drink, much more.
To get out of town, get a map, a guidebook, then go to the Dutch train website (in English) at http://www.ns.nl/en
You'll find a lot of great targets in reach of short train rides, from the obvious big names like Rotterdam and Utrecht and The Hague to many smaller places that the good guidebooks at your local library will suggest.
A week based in Amsterdam will go by in a jiffy!

DH and I stayed in Haarlem for two nights then moved on to Amsterdam for a couple nights. Although a very short train ride, we did it just to have a bit of downtime between cities. It is a lovely town and would be a nice daytrip. Delft is a daytrip we took from Amsterdam.
