Milan Train/Plane Connection

My retrun flight to the states is scheduled for Noon on a Sunday. I will be spending Saturday in the Italian Alps near Sestriere. It looks like I can catch an early train on Sunday morning (6:05 a.m.) to Milan that gets me to Milano Centrale at 9:40 a.m. Is that enough time to catch my flight back to New York and how do I get to the airport once i'm at the train station.

thx

Hello Barbara,

If your train runs on time you should make it to Malpensa with about an hour to spare. For airport bus info from Milano Centrale seeBR>www.airpullman.com/shuttle/shuttlee.htm
www.airpullman.com/orari/milano.htm

Hope this helps ...

Steve

It's do-able but for my tastes, cutting it a tad close. Especially if there's any delay with your early morning train into Milano Centrale.

Malpensa Airport is about 40 kilometers outside the city --- in travel time, it takes 50 minutes on the shuttle bus which departs directly outside of the train station for MXP.

There is no direct train connection from Stazione Centrale to the airport. The train "Malpensa Express" that does run to airport takes 45 minutes; however it departs from the Cardorna Nord station (a couple metro stops from main train station OR a short taxi ride).
Thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards getting to Milan the day before and staying overnight and maybe catching one or two city sites. Any input as to where to stay (3star hotel) and the must-see's of milan.

thx again

Hello again Barbara,

I suggest you re-post this as a "Milan/hotels" question to attract the attention of those who have stayed there and can make suggestions.

Alternatively, - have you considered staying at Como? From there it's a relatively easy train journey to Malpensa, with a change of train at Milano Cadorna station, from where you can catch the 'Malpensa Express'. Just an idea ...

Steve
