Nice airport to Villefranche-sur-Mer
Hello
Can anyone tell me how I can get from the airport in Nice to Villefranche....I am travelling on a Saturday?
Obviously I know I can take a taxi but I am wondering if I can also take the train.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You'll need to take a taxi. There's no train service from the airport, so you'd have to go to the train station in town.
By taxi, the drive is about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. I'm guessing it will cost you about 50E, since to the center of Nice usually costs us about 25E.
If this sounds too expensive, you could take a bus from the airport to town. I think it probably stops close to or at the train station. But of course all of this adds a lot of time to getting to Villefranche.

Nice has 4 train stations. It is a 10 minute walk from Nice airport to St. Augustin station. If you don't have a lot of luggage it is an easy walk. If you have a lot of luggage there is a direct bus that runs very frequently from in front of the terminal to the main bus terminal at Nice where you can transfer to a bus going to Villefranche (#100 or #110). You can also take a bus from the airport that stops at the main train station in Nice (Gare Nice Ville) where you can get a train to Villefranche. Train takes about 7 minutes and is the second stop from Nice. From train station it is a downhill walk to the center of town in Villefranche.
Have fun Villefranche is great.

Thanks everyone!
Thanks for your reply Larry...I have to say that I have seen some of your responses on here recently and I was tempted to email you direct re my question.....I had a feeling you would be able to answer it.
We were in Villefranche last September and had a fabulous time...but that time we were picked up from the airport by friends.
I saw you posted re the market in Ventimiglia and you recommended it. Can I just check with you that Friday is the best day to go there.
We have 2 weeks in Villefranche...I am 6 months pregnant so we don't want to undertake any major day trips....we visited Eze and Monaco last time....any other suggestions as to great day trips - even just places to visit for lunch?
I would welcome any suggestions![Imported](https://www.fodors.com/community/images/smilies/imported/smiley.gif)
Many thanks again.

Friday is the only day for the gigantic indoor / outdoor market at Ventimiglia. It is an easy train ride from Villefranche. The trip will take you about about 45 minutes. The trains are frequent both ways. As for other daytrips from VSM: There are frequent trains stopping at all the coastal towns. They are fast and cheap. I especially like to go to Monte Carlo (especially at night), Menton, Eze sur Mer then shuttle bus up to the Village Eze, Nice of course, Cagnes sur Mer and then take bus up hill to St Paul de Vence and Vence (great if you like old Provencal villages and art galleries), Antibes and Cannes. I also like to take the mountain train route from Nice Gare Ville toward Cuneo, Italy. The villages of Peillon, Peille, Breil Sur Roya and Tende are nice daytrips. Be aware that it is a 6 km hike uphill from the train station at Peille to the village and about 2 km from station to Peillon village. These are perched / stacked mountain villages. The stations for Breil and Tende are on the edge of town and easy to walk to town centers. Another nice trip is Grasse, the great perfume capital. You can get there by bus from Nice or take train to Cannes and train from there to Grasse on the newly re-opened rail line or you can go from Nice directly to Grasse by train as of 3-26-05. See attached url. It's a long uphill walk to town center from Grasse station but there are frequent buses from the station.
Others on this board can offer many more interesting daytrips for you. That's what is so good about the Nice area. It's much more than just a seaside resort area and you have many choices for things to do and places to go.
