night in Dublin
This may sound a bit silly, but my sister and I are traveling to Spain and Italy, but will have a 12 hour layover in Dublin on our way back to the States. however, it is from 10pm to 10am. Do you think it would be worth while to head into Dublin to check out a local pub and grab a bit to eat before returning to the airport for our flight?
If so what are some recommendations that you have?

If the option is to spend the 12 hours in the airport, then I'd say go ahead and venture into center city Dublin for the "evening". I believe that DART runs from the airport into the city, but given you are arriving late, you may have to stay in center city UNTIL DART begins running again in the morning, or take a taxi back to the airport (I believe DART runs until 1:00 am (we were there in May). A couple of concerns-- what do you do with your luggage once you arrive in Dublin? Is it checked through to the states? How much will you have to carry with you into the city? There are plenty of good pubs in the city. I'm not sure how late they are open however, and you may not get into the city until nearly midnight IF your 'scheduled" landing time is 10 pm.

we are checking the majority of our luggage, and will only have a bookbag with us each on the plane. and I was hoping there may be something open late considering dublin is a big city. I may have to start some goodle searches and see what I can find! thanks for the help, and the questions- its made me think of things to check into

The DART doesn't run from the airport. The only option I think at that time of night is a taxi. Taxi fares would be 20 euro or there abouts each way. There are bus companies that run from the airport to the city centre but I don't know if they will be running that late.
Dublin pubs begin to close at 11:30, but there are pubs in the templebar district that stay open much later. However, and this is abig consideration if you are looking for an Irish experience - Temple Bar at the time of night is not typically and Irish experience - lots of drunken and sloppy stag and hen partys.
Sorry long answer to your question - it is really a question of if you are prepared for the cost of getting into Dublin and back from the airport at that time of night and the hassle that may be invovled.

Are you looking to stay up all night in Dublin? For a 10 am flight, even with no check-in luggage, you need to be at the airport by 8 am to complete security and US immigration pre-clearance, meaning leaving the city by 7. There is nowhere I know of where you can take a nap, like 24-hour internet cafe, and a hotel for a few hours seems such a waste.
If I were you, I'd check into an airport hotel, have a late meal or room service, and get a good night's sleep before the transatlantic flight and onward journey in the States.

The dart does not run to the airport but the Air link busses will be running and you can take one to the city centre for 7 euro each. Also you can go for a drink or some food (Mostly fast food at this time of night) and then you would have to get a taxi back. I am not really sure its worth it. What might be better is get a taxi to Swords a village just beside the airport that has pubs, some night clubs and late bars. You can get food late at Eddie Rockets and grab a taxi back to the airport and haang round after.
Or as mentioned above get a hotel room and relax and get some food in!
