That's a lot of driving on Scottish roads.
I think that I'd stop off somewhere, possibly Inverness.

Inverness is the logical stop over - but I'd recommend someplace a bit nicer. Since you are now talking about 2 days for the drive there is no reason to divide the distance in half. I'd suggest someplace like Grantown-on-Spey or Beauly/Strathpeffer

If I was GOING to Wick/ Thurso, I'd not dream of a stop over.
It's 6 hours. The roads are (mostly) dual carriageway as far as Inverness and pretty good single carriageway north of there- also much less trafficked north of there.
