Sould we fly into Palermo airport and out of Catania or vice versa? Either way the time of departure is 6 am. Also, if we arrive at the Palermo airport should we rent a car there or wait until we leave Palermo a couple of days later. Since the departure flight is so early what is the best way to return the car.

Because the Catania airport is so much closer to town than the Palermo airport, I would suggest (all other things being equal) to depart out of Catania. Don't rent a car as soon as you arrive in Palermo (unless you plan to use it immediately for trips OUTSIDE of the capital city). When touring Palermo itself, you DO NOT want to have a car with you!!!!!!!

There is airporter bus service between Palermo airport and downtown Palermo every 30 minutes which costs 4.80 Euros. Travel time is 50 minutes. There is also a bus between Catania Airport and downtown Catania every 20 minutes, which costs less than 1 Euro. Travel time is 20 minutes.

There will be 4 of us. How much would a cab cost from the airport to Palermo?

Since our plane departs Catania at 6 a.m. we would probably get a cab there also. What would we pay for a cab from Catania to the airport and would we be able to return the car (the day before leaving) in Catania? I read your recommendation of the Hotel del Duomo,is it still a good choice?

1. Palermo airport to Palermo by cab: 35 to 40 Euros, plus small supplement for luggage and night/Sunday travel.

2. Catania airport to Catania by cab: 20 Euros, plus small supplement for luggage and night/Sunday travel

3. You can return the car in Catania. Whether there is a drop charge will depend upon the rental company.

4. The Hotel del Duomo in Catania should still be good.
