Paragliding or Ballooning in the Dolomites (or elsewhere in the Alps)
Hi all
Thinking of experiencing some thrills on my upcoming trip (as if the Stilsferjoch weren't enough...).
Where did you paraglide/balloon in the Dolomites (or elsewhere in the Alps) and what did you think of the outfit that took you up - and do you have any photos to share? (I'm not greedy at all am I?)
Many thanks.

Well I didn't paraglide, but when we were in Interlaken there were tons of people who were. There are several outfits that do it, but the guy who owned the hotel we stayed at, Fritz, takes people up. If I were going to go I'd have gone with him. He was a great guy, the hotel was great, and I'm sure his paragliding experiences are wonderful. He says he's only not gone up a handful of days in his whole adult life. The hotel is www.lotschberg.ch/

In the timeI have spent hiking in the Dolomites (Val Badia and Seiser Alm areas) , I have not seen a single paraglider. In the Swiss Alps, on the other hand there are lots of them---major centers are Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen Valley (from either the top of the cliff, or from the Schilthorn), and around Interlaken.
Here is a company that will take you up for a tandem flight from Grindelwald:

If you Google "paragldding Grindelwald", you will find a couple of UTube videos on it.

This album http://tinyurl.com/2qcfh4 contains some pictures of paragliders taking off above Annnecy. They also had hang gliding nearby. A ride cost about 80€ three or four years ago. No, I did not go gliding.

Hi Flygirl - I've seen paragliders on most of my visits to the Dolomites in the Val Gardena area - especially in winter (- they land on their skis).
I'll post some links later - there are several companies, I think ...

On the German side, there is Happy Ballooning http://www.happy-ballooning.com/
Full disclosure: Yes, this is a relative on my husband's side, but a very distant one. There are only a few Tilkes (still) in Germany, but one runs a hot air ballooning business, another is the world's leading designer of F1 race tracks, another is retired road and bridge builder, and my father-in-law was trained as a Luftwaffe glider pilot during WW II (yanked out of school for the job, he was only 16), reaching the highest level. Transportation of one kind or another seems to "run" in their genes!

This post is old, but if anyone checks in for future reference, I just went paragliding in the Dolomites, near Castelrotto. The tandem pilot, Marco, was a real pro and made me feel great about my first jump. I did get sick in the air one time, but it was so worth it!! www.tandem-pilot.com
I just posted a few pics from that trip today: http://findthefound.org/2010/09/14/i...the-dolomites/
