Paris 5th or 7th?

Looking to rent a studio through Paristudio.com - the Xavier Privas studio is the one we looked at. Has anyone stayed there? I am starting to wonder if a rental in the 7th would be a better location? My budget would be 100/110 euros a night. I am traveling in August 4 nights. We will be doing museums, and typical sights. Opinions?

I have not used the rental service you describe.

As for a choice between the 5th and the 7th, I think my preference would be for the 7th.

It is a residential area with nice shops. But Paris is full of nice shops. I think that the choice actually comes down to the apartment and the exact street. Turn a corner in Paris and sometimes the world seems to change. You can go from a backwater to the main stream in less than 100 yards.

PS. The major sights in Paris are well strung out along an east to west axis, roughly speaking on both sides of the Seine.

In my visits, I have found that the proximity of bus lines and Metro lines is more important than any other consideration.

The first time we were there, our destinations geographically reached from the Opera Bastille to Musee Marmottan. No way to be close to both hotel wise!!

This is not a compromise, the 6th has always been my favorite.

I won't sell you on it, its merits speak for itself. For me,it's a great location with good transportation and local shopping. For you....

Is this link right? I just get a link to "Olivia Fox Cabane - Charisma coach". She has an office in Paris, but somehow, I don't think this is what you want.

Personally, I found the 7th a little too quiet, but it certainly has a lovely residential feeling. Overall, I would prefer the 5th, unless it was in the very dense tourist spots. But either one is convenient for touring.

I could not make a sweeping 5th over 7th, or vice versa, choice. Both are huge areas with a lot of different neighborhoods.

Speaking very generally, I would prefer the northern part of the 7th, closest to the 6th as I could get.

For the 5th, with which I'm less familiar, I might possibly risk the same sort of thing: near the Seine, close to the 6th.

Thanks for all the feedback. I did make a mistake on the link - sorry about that. I agree about this being a personal preference - it is always nice to hear what others have experienced. Appreciate the info on proximity of metro locations - I had not thought of it that way. I will continue my search... Merci!

5th is busier and closer to more of the things you'll want to do.

7th is more residential.

Both are lovely.

I would prefer parts of the 5th to the 7th, also, in general, but that isn't really your question. You want to choose between a specific apt in one particular location in the 5th versus maybe the 7th. I don't think you can generalize that way, one location in the 5th can have nothing to do with another in a completely different area.

In this particular case, although I like parts of the fifth and have stayed there, I do not like that locaiton and wouldn't stay there. I would choose a nice part of the 7th over that, but not a bad part of the 7th. see, it's just not that simple. That location isn't very representative of the 5th at all, to me.

Although I didn't stay in a studio on that street, 2 friends of mine and I stayed in a 1BR on Xavier Privas a few years ago. Admittedly, the location is ideal, a block from Notre Dame and the Seine, the St. Michel métro stop but at night, that was the noisiest street I have EVER tried to sleep on! It was warm but was necessary every night to shut the windows and swelter because the entire street is one restaurant after another with maître'd's shouting trying to get clients in, kind of like a carnival. And the revelers walking up and down the street until 1 or 2 in the morning. Not just a couple of people - but hundreds! So you can open the windows around 3 and then at 5 or 6 the garbage trucks start picking up the previous night's detritus.

While we had a fun time and it was centrally located, we were all really tired.

My recommendation is the 7th. Rue Cler market and a great location for the sights. For a studio look at Hotel Relais Bosquet www.relaisbosquet.com in your price range.
