paris airport shuttle versus taxi
Can anyone compare the cost of getting a CDG airport shuttle to Notre Dame versus a taxi for 2 people? Where can I find a listing of the shuttles to make a reservation? Thanks

Taxis are about E50 to E60. Shuttles are about $30 to $35 although could cost $50, depending on the shuttle.
You can search here or on google for Paris shuttles. Some are:

A taxi will cost from 45€ to 50€. Do not accept rides from those who might be soliciting from inside the terminals. The taxi queues are found curbside, but steps away from baggage claim.
There are generally two types of shuttles - private or shared ride. A private shuttle will usually cost a bit more than a taxi but there is no meter. Shared ride shuttles generally cost from 15€ to 20€ per passenger but these are probably the slowest way to reach Paris as you wait to pickup and drop off other passengers.
After years of reading countless stories about shuttles that never show up and other service problems, I avoid them. Taxis are always available. Should price be a concern, the RER can get you to Notre Dame for 8.70€ in about 30 minutes from CDG.

This may just be a "me" thing, but we alwways take a taxi (from the taxi stand) when we arrive. usually after the flight I am in no mood for anything challenging and for me the shuttle is just that.... so I go to the ATM get some cash and hop in a taxi.

Depending on how many you are (for four a taxi is not terribly expensive), how much luggage you have (RER can easily work with one suitcase per person), how old you are ("old" = older than our 67 and 63), how tired you will be, and how adventurous you are . . . the RER would be a good choice for your intended destination. We do it routinely now after a first trip when we took a taxi.

Shuttles are priced per person, so for four people it is probably more economical to take a taxi. The shuttle service I use, World Shuttle, costs 17 euros per person if there are four people. http://www.world-shuttles.com/index....id=47&Itemid=2
I always take a taxi on my way to Paris from the airport. Many shuttles involve calling when you arrive and meeting them outside, while the taxis are all waiting for you in a nice line right outside the terminal. On the other hand, I always take a shuttle back to the airport from Paris because it is more economical when I am alone or with just one other person.

Addtional detail on another choice...
There is an RER station right at the sqaure in front of Notre Dame, as well as an exit on the Left Bank, right at the Seine just over from Notre Dame. There is only one line from the airport, so no missing the right train.

In the last couple of years we have used a shared shuttle, a private shuttle, and taxis.
The shared shuttle we used was Yellow Van. I think they have been bought out by another shuttle company, but am not 100% sure. Anyway, they were 17 euro pp and we had no problems with them. It was just one ride to the airport. They were on time, professional, and dropped us at the correct terminal.
The private shuttle was Shuttle Inter. I booked them online before we left. We did not have a good experience with them at all. They were not there upon our arrival and it took several phone calls before they showed up. I reconfirmed our departure with the driver once we got to our apt., and also reconfirmed via email during the week. Still, they failed to show! Good thing we were not far from a taxi stand and good thing there were taxis there otherwise we would have missed our flight if we had depended on them. BTW, the cost was 55 euro the first leg, and 50 for the 2nd leg. Our taxi cost 39 euro.
We have taken taxis on all other trips and never had an issue with them. When we return this summer, we will definitely use taxis again.

I believe that the Marais lies in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. parismarais.com
We used Shuttle-Inter for several trips to and from the airport, Versailles, Disney our last trip and found them utterly reliable.
Having said that, a taxi should work well for 2 people during "normal" hours. We are a family of 5 and securing a cab for a group that large, with luggage, is an underappreciated challenge. It was hard at Disney, without luggage. And, our return flight to the states was very early, requiring a pre-dawn trip to the airport. I wasn't interested in finding a cab at that hour.
Enjoy your trip.

If you're packing light, take the RER. For detailed instructions, including photos, visit www.parisbytrain.com.
If you have a lot of luggage, take a taxi.

I use www.airport-connection.com. I just used them again a few months ago as did a friend who landed in Paris a couple hours after I had. I was fine with them and he was too. I've been taking them since 2008 as they were recommended by the Parisian apartment owner of the apartment that I was renting in 2008.
I've taken shuttles in Paris for well over a decade and have been fine with them. I have always ordered a shared shuttle and have never arrived late or rushed to the airport and they have all showed up. What I do, when possible and depending on the company, is click on the 45-minute or 1-hour earlier choice for a pick up than what they recommend.
After arriving into the terminal, there's a toll free number to call to let them know that you have arrived and then they will instruct you as to what door to go to. Sometimes there's construction at the airport so the door could change from what's printed on your reservation.
Patience is needed as the shuttle could be on the other side of the airport picking up other passengers as with any shuttle service. Here at home, in L.A., I take shuttle services regularly to and from the airport. So, shuttles are not an issue with me.
And for around 54 Euros ROUND TRIP that I pay for my shuttle service, in Paris, I don't mind being a little patient. A taxi to the 6th would cost me around 60 Euros one way. As for how long it takes to get into town, around 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. But, at least in a shuttle, there's no ticking meter. Happy Travels!

One advantage of a shuttle over a taxi is if you get stuck in traffic there is no meter running! Happened to us last trip and glad we'd booked a private shuttle instead of our usual taxi Used Shuttle Inter

We have been 4 people with luggage several times and have never had a problem getting a taxi/van large enough for us. I think starting a trip off easily by going to the taxi queue with my hotel address and map in hand is a lot less stressful than finding a phone to get a shuttle. There is NO doubt that with 3 or more people (I know the OP is 2) it is less expensive to take a cab.

The other thing I like with a shuttle (which others distinctly dislike)is that you aren't necessarily the first "drop-off". I consider a shuttle kind of like an inexpensive "tour" of different Paris neighborhoods. It may be my imagination, but it has always seemed like they drop off those staying at a more elite hotel than my budge hotel; by that time after a long flight, I'm just thrilled to not be lugging my luggage around!

avalon--Well, you need to call Shuttle Inter if they do not show up like they are supposed to
On our first trip to Paris there was an accident on the way back to CDG. Our taxi driver knew enough to get out of the thick of it and so he detoured us a bit which saved a bunch of time. So we did not pay more than the typical amount.
