Please help me choose a hotel in Paris
Please help me choose from the hotels below that are listed in no particular order. We would like to stay in a safe area with interesting, reasonably priced restaurants and trendy galleries within an easily walkable distance of our hotel. Proximity to the metro is less important if taxis are readily available to attractions that are farther away. We are looking for somewhat large rooms (at least ~400 sq ft or ~40 sqm) with a living area and maybe a terrace. The list I have narrowed down includes hotels and aparthotels both, although we only care for the additional living space in an aparthotel and not the kitchen area so much. I find many hotels within our budget around the Opera area, but I am not sure that it has the vibe we are looking for. So we are having a hard time deciding between the Citadine St. Gernain for instance, which has smaller rooms but is in an area highly recommended on these forums, vs. say La Clef by the Louvre which costs more $$, or a suite at the predictably comfortable, relatively less expensive but boring Marriott Montparnasse. Any recommendations other than those below are also welcome. Thanks in advance.
La Clef Louvre
Rayz suites near the Opera
Paris Marriott Opera Ambassador
Citadine saint germaine
Citadine Opera
Citadine les Halles (Louvre)
Hotel intercontinental (Opera)
Marriott Rive Gauche (Montparnasse)
La Clef Eiffel Tower
Hotel molitor
Hotel California (just threw this in as well, in the Champs Elysees, my least favorite neighborhood from years ago, but has very comfortable looking rooms)

Hi vipsha,
While I haven't stayed there yet, the Citadines Les Halles is at the top of my list for a future visit. I love the location smack in the Marais, but mostly I love the views out the windows.
Have fun as you plan!

I really liked Hotel de Varenne, in the 7th. I booked far ahead and got a pretty decent price, but it's not cheap either. You can get a superior room which is a nice size. The rooms are really pretty and quiet. The area is good, walking distance to lots of sights, it's very clean, air con, and there is a little coffee wine bar a half block away for coffee and pastry or baguette with butter and jam for a couple of bucks in the morning. Forget the Euro 30 breakfast at the hotel.

Some essentials are missing. What's your budget, how large is your party and when is your stay. Also, when asking advice on hotels, it's always considerate to include a web link to spare repliers research. When ou tighten up your request, you'll find that you get better answers.

Thanks 5alive and swandav2000, good to hear that both these locations offer advantages. Natylou, the Varenne looks beautiful and they have a suite in the size we are looking for.
Envierges, I am sorry for not providing any details about my budget, I will say that all the hotels I have listed are well within my budget for what I want. It was not my intention for fodorites to go to the hotel websites and research them for me, (I have done that), but rather to ask if they knew anything about these hotels off the top of their heads, or if they had stayed in any of them like 5alive had or were in the same neighborhood, like swandav2000 (who recommendations I have used before). Any opinions on any of the locations that the hotels are in are also welcome. I appreciate your desire to be helpful.

I am not sure what you are looking for. As no one knows what you are paying for any of these hotels, there is no budget window with which to offer useful recommendations.

Our daughter has stayed at the Citadines Saint Germaine and said the location was great and the room was fine.
We have stayed at the Britannique and loved it. Our room was large and had a couple chairs for sitting.
We also have stayed at the Muguet and loved that as our two rooms both had great views.

I visited German friends in their room at the Britannique once (also a great location), and it was absolutely tiny, so clearly they have different sizes of rooms. The thought of staying at Citadines in Saint Germain, makes me shudder except for the thought that Citadines apart-hotels have kitchenettes and you are not obliged to eat in the overpriced tourist traps of that neighbourhood.

I would definitely stay at the Opera Intercontinental Grande. It is in an excellent location. You can walk to Galeries Lafayette and the Louvre. The metro is across the street. Cafe de la Paix is in the lobby. So chic.
My parents stayed here years ago and their room was quite large. I have a photo somewhere of my mother sitting on a bed.

We stayed at the Intercontinental a few years back and loved it. Beautiful hotel. We started our tradition of glass of bubbly before turning in every night there. Great location near Opera Garnier and not far from Madeleine, so we found the access by Metro, taxi, etc...was very good and an easy walk to Place de la Concorde and The Louvre.
