Please help plan: Munich- Salzburg - Davos/Zurich

We're flying to MUC on 14th and plan to fly out of ZRH on 22nd. We'll have to be in Davos on 20-21. need to spend some quality time in between exploring. Should we rent a car one way or just take trains? Are their road tolls?

How long to spend in Munich? Anything else in Bavaria?

How many days for Salzburg? How to get to Switzerland from there? Go directly to Davos or explore something around or on the way? Any accomodations/restaraunt recommendations?

Thanks for all your help

First step; either do your own research on the web or buy a guidebook and then ask questions

I am partial to trains - esp if you are mainly going to cities such as Munich and Salzburg where cars are useless and you may have to pay extortionary rates to park.

In Switzerland trains go everywhere - a scenic line goes to Davor - even a little travel can make a Swiss Railpass pay off - it also covers lake boats, postal buses and all regular passenger trains, including to Davos.

And yes Switzerland has an about 35 SF (or more) charge to get a permit to use the autobahns - but not regular roads, which though IME can be very slow going - taking days to get anywhere. Not sure if car rentals would supply the decal, which you can buy at the border on autobahns. Not sure about Austria. But renting a car in one country and returning it in another can often mean a steep drop-off charge so be clear about that.

Hey HS,

We are very happy to help you improve your itinerary, but you have to have one first.

You have only 7 nights, of which 2 are in Davos and 1 is in Zurich the night before you fly home.

Munich is worth 2 nights, as is Salzburg.

Picking up a car in Germany or Austria and dropping it in CH will entail a hefty fee.

Train schedules are at www.bahn.de for Munich to Salzburg, at http://www.oebb.at/ for Austria to CH and http://www.oebb.at/ for CH.
