Positano Hotel

I am travelling to Positano and Capri next May on my Honeymoon. In Positano, does anyone have any thoughts on Hotel Poseidon v Le Agavi? What are the pros and cons of these two hotels. Also, would you agree that the Quissisana is the place to stay in Capri?
Regards,
Dan

Le Agavi is very fine and with very beautiful view, but it is not in the town.
Quisisana is one of the right choices in Capri.
Have a nice trip.

Dan,

We stayed at the Poseidon two summers ago, and absolutely loved it. Our room, a junior suite with a sweeping view of the white stucco houses of Positano, all the way down to the gravel beach, could not be beat. The staff was excellent, and the food was to die for, as was the view from the restaurant terrace. Although we didn't make it to Capri that trip ( no boats were going out from Positano due to rough water) we are actually headed there this summer, to the Hotel Luna. Friends of ours stayed at the Quissisana in July, and came away unimpressed. They said it was stuffy, overpriced, and too large to cater to guests on an intimate level. I guess it depends what you're looking for, and how much you want to spend. Good luck!

I have heard only wonderful things about the Poseidon. I actually stayed at Villa Franca and liked it very much but would choose the Poseidon on my next trip to Positano. Location is great and right next door to a wonderful trattoria. In Capri, I would not choose to stay at the Quissisana, although it is rated so highly. It depends on what you like. I found it stuffy, too formal and too commercial. I stayed at Villa Brunella. It has a very different feel, the owner and his adult children run the place, personalized service, and much smaller than the Quissisana. I would check out the Casa Morgana and the Scalinatella, also small properties, probably a bit more upscale than Villa Brunella. Either way, Capri is a wonderful place to stay a few days.

I agree with the previous posts regarding the Quisisana. I stayed there several years ago and found it overpriced and lacking in any intimate feeling. The guests there tend to wealthy older people, not the place I would choose for a honeymoon. I love the Villa Brunella, everything from the rooms, view, pool, service and restaurant is wonderful. Just be prepared to climb a lot of steps, but you will be doing a lot of uphill walking in Capri anyway. If you can afford to stay at the Quisisana, you may also look into the Scalitanella or Morgana as previously recommended. Or, spend that money on the Sirenuse in Positano which is superb in every way. I have stayed there three times and wouldn't stay anywhere else in Positano. Friends have stayed at the Posedion and recommend it highly however.

Hi Dan,

I was actually married at Hotel Poseidon and would highly suggest a stay there. Everyone was we dealt with was top notch and willing to help with our requests. We had a larger suite that we would not be able to splurge for again, but that aside, we would certainly stay there again. And the views are wonderful and it seems you are in the middle of Positano, not up to far and not down directly on the beach. We loved it and I hope you do as well!

Jessica

WE just stayed at the Posiedon this August. The staff was wonderful and the hotel was charming. The room was small and bare bones and the bathroom was not luxurious, however the baalconey was fabulous-- large, private with table and lounge chairs.. and a great view of the mountain side of Positano. The hotel was filled with British and Italian people and many children. But they sere well behaved. It seemed as if many of the guests were returnees. It is a family owned hotel and so the staff seems to take pride in it. All n all I would recommend it. However if you want to be near the beach..choose another location as it is a far walk down the a steep mountain.
