Positano Restaurant - Special Occasion
Our first night in Positano on our honeymoon is also my husband's birthday. Any recommendations for a great place to celebrate? Something a little fancier? We are both foodies.
Thanks!!!

La Sponda at La Sirenuse is very nice (at least it was when I was there in 2001). More info at:

I can highly recommend the restaurant at the Hotel Poseidon. It was so good, that we ate there twice. The setting is spectacular (reserve outdoors if the weather is nice), the food was wonderful, and the service was perfect. This was a favorite and ranks high on our list of best food, anywhere.

Another vote for the Hotel Poseidon. I still dream about the food and view there! Also, try their sensational homemade lemonade if you happen to go there for lunch. I know it sounds ridiculous, but they used to make it with huge lemons, San Pelligrino, and just a touch of sugar right at the bar, and it was absolutely wonderful!
If that doesn't work for some reason, you might want to check out one of the restaurants in Montepertuso. This is a mountain village, a short drive from Positano. We had dinner at IL RITROVO and DONNA ROSA, both of which were fabulous with views to match! Many of the restaurants in Montepertuso will arrange roundtrip transportation for guests staying in Positano, so ask your concierge to look into this if you're interested.

The Hotel Poseidon has a beautiful website with a photo of their restaurant. http://www.hotelposeidonpositano.com...ristorante.htm
While we are on the subject of the Poseidon and Positano, is it considered poor board etiquette to pose a question about readers preferences between The Hotel Poseidon and Albergo Le Sirenuse's accommodations? They both look lovely. Should I start a new thread as not to hijack mw's question re restaurants?

Hi MW,
From my trip report:
"We splurged for lunch at the terrace restaurant of the Hotel Buca di Bacco.
I had the house special antipasto plate (pate de foie gras, fried zucchini sticks, potato puff with Regiano Parmiggiano, seafood fritter, shrimps), and the baked eggplant parmigiana.
LW had a cheese omelette and a salad.
Lunch with wine 65E, but a great view of the beach".
Food and service were very good, surroundings were excellent, and it is right on the beach.

La Sponda at the Sirenuse serves superb food in an elegant setting overlooking the town. I honestly don't think you can do better in Positano. You probably can't do much better in Italy, for that matter.
A hint that may help you decide if it is for you -- all the pastas for your first course are excellent. For the main course, they will usually be featuring one particular species of fish -- it might be dentice, or pesce spada, or any of a number -- as well as the usual menu. If you order the fish they will grill it whole over a wood fire. At the table your waiter will deftly free the fish from the bones, then spoon a little sauce of olive oil, lemon and oregano over the fillet.
Their house wine comes from their own vineyards and is quite good -- and helps hold down the considerable cost.
I believe that the tables at the edge of the patio are reserved for guests. Perhaps if you call ahead to reserve and mention it's your honeymoon they'll let you reserve one. The view -- well you're right above the church, the lights gleam in the town -- and I've seen an old waiter, who must have enjoyed that view his whole life, pause at the sight, sigh and whisper "Bella."

We're back from our honeymoon, and I wanted to post a quick review of our special occasion restaurant. I'll post more soon.
We celebrated my husband's birthday at Le Sponda. It was incredibly romantic, gorgeous views and the service was impeccable (they even brought a cake out for my husband because our hotel had mentioned when making the reservation that it was his birthday). Unfortunately, the food was absolutely awful. Possibly the worst meal of our trip. Still, it was a nice experience. If only we weren't eating!

Has anyone had dinner/lunch at the restaurant in the Eden Roc Hotel in Positano? I haven't read anything about this restaurant on this site, or perhaps I missed it, but I'm interested if anyone has heard anything about it.
Thanks,
Aranda
