Provence or the Dordogne? First trip to France

My husband and I are planning a first time trip to France. We will either begin or end with a few days in Paris. We love natural beauty, quaint villages, mod hiking and biking. I want to be that biker with a baguette in my back pocket and bottle of wine in my bottle holder, riding next to an incredible feild, castle, forest, and/or picturesque village. You get the picture! We are using a friends time share and must decide between the two regions. Thanks for any info!

What time of year are you going? Provence gets blazing hot in summer, so biking could be arduous unless you're used to heat.

It's a tough call. Each are beautiful in their own way. Think Castles, Caves, foie gras and greys for the Dordogne.<BR>Provence, think blazing colors, charming houses lavender, churches with lacy campaniles. The summers in Provence are not hot like here - less humidity. Whatever you chose, you will have beauty and great food.

You can't go wrong with either region. It almost comes down to the type of scenery you prefer. The Dordogne is soft and lush, with wide rivers and spectacular gorges, verdant hills and fields, rich forests, and ochre-colored stone dwellings. Provence is gray/blue/white stone, more arid and rocky terrain, with flatlands giving way to spiky alps. Completely different feel to each place, but each is beautiful in its own way.
