Ravenna -- tour guide info?

The city's website lists several groups that give guided tours for the main sites.

I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience. We are interested in a short half day or 1.5 hour tour of the churches.

Thanks!
dina

Hi Dina,
not only churches, please do not miss "Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra" open for only 4 years.
Ravenna is very interesting.
Really I have the right guide for you. Her name is Cyndi, she is American and she lives in Romagna.
Let me know if you want her contact info.

Ciao.

Vincenzo

By all accounts, Cyndi is a sweet person, but I rather doubt that she knows very much about Ravenna mosaics...

Vincenzo,
Thank you. PLease send me Cyndi's contact info.

Also,
Can you tell me about the "Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra"?

Zerlina,
Do you know Cyndi? Why would you assume she doesn't know about the mosaics??

No, but I read her blog from time to time:

http://reboot-anewlifeinitaly.blogspot.com/index.html

There is nothing there to indicate that she ever studied art history, and without that background, I doubt that one can successfully "guide" in Ravenna.

But here is her "business" Web site:

Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra is in the inner part of the Church of Sant'Eufemia (XVII century), 3 metres under the ground.
There are 14 places whose floors are wonderful mosaics.
In fact it was not born as church but, in the VI century is was the house a very rich family of Ravenna.
Unique and very wonderful is the mosaic Danza dei Geni delle Quattro Stagioni, their way to dance makes a ring and it seems, believe me, that you could listen the music and see them to dance for you in those moments.
Come soon, you are welcome to Ravenna.

Ciao.

Vincenzo
