Recommendation hotel Nafplio needed

Looking for a place to stay for 3 nights, June 8, 2011-June 11, 2011. 2 adults-will have rental car so need place that offers parking. Budget 200 euros per night max. View and swimming pool would be bonus and could stretch budget for this. Staying at the Olympia Asty, Amalia in Delphi, and Divani Meteora. Would like Nafplio hotel to be same quality as these. Thanks.

Amphitryon is well located by the sea but I don't know if it has a pool. There is parking adjacent to it if I remember correctly.Napflia Palace is on the hill top above the Amphitryon but I prefered the Amphitryon's location.

Amphitryon -- which has very good reviews -- is "sister hotel" to Nafplia Palace & tells people to go up & use Nafplia palace pool. FOr a supposed 5-star, Naf-Pal has mixed reviews on TA. Chris you should be aware that Nafplio Old Town is historic with strict building regulations (that is how it retains its charm), and it's a trade-off ... swimming pools are modern amenities, but not authentic in this locale.

As a sidelight, in fact, the building of Nafplio Palace in its location (at the top of the ancient Acronafplio) could not have happened except it was built in the 1970s by the GReek Government itself to foster luxury tourism (caused great controversy at the time but of course cannot be undone) Not surprisingly, like most govts., Greek govt didn't know how to run a hotel, and it had to be sold to a private hotel group & renovated.

Hotel Amalia is First Class/luxury, with pool but is not directly in Old Town... check website to see exact location.

In point of fact, it won't be all that warm June 8, have you checked annual temps? And you do know that Greek pools are unheated. So... if you want a "dip" why not try the cute pebble beach of Old Town, Arvanita? Just follow the gorgeous flagstone walkway along the water, around end of Peninsula -- talk about breathtaking views! Only proviso, bring along those little rubber "water shoes" (or crocs), as some of the nicest Greek beaches have pebbles getting in.

Thanks all for the help.

Waiting to hear back from Amphitryon. Did hear back from Aetoma-they have availability for us. Pool is not a necessity. Prefer charm, location, clean/well maintained hotel. Do these 2 places have parking for our rental car?

Jan-water shoes are on my packing list! Thanks.

Chris, I'm assuming that you're OK with a little walking. Have you looked at the map of Nafplio Old Town? Along almost the ENTIRE waterfront is a VAST free parking lot... and if your hotel is on the level, you just roll your little bag along the street to most hotels. In the High season, it can get full, but you're going in June, mid-week. If there is not a parking space right next to your hotel door, this is where most people park.

Jan-By the time we get to Greece, our legs should be in great shape. In Petra, we have to climb 800 steps to get to one site we want to see!! Nice to know there is a parking area in Old Town. Thanks.

Chris, it's always good to work with a MAP... Does your guidebook not have maps? they usually answer many questions you ask here. Here is one, http://www.latinihotel.gr/nafplio.asp The parking is all along the seafront from the X in the water to the RH edge of the Map. In fact, click on the X's and you'll get a lot of info about locations. And if you don't like this map, you can always click to Google Image & search "Nafplio map".

www.pensioneleni.gr may be the perfect place for you if you want basic accommmodation near parking. We stay in Naplion every one to two years and rented 4 rooms there in 2009. There are two buildings, one of which has sea views on one side of the building. Request the top floor in the lower building for a view to die for. Eleni is a charmer-- everyone's dream of a loving grandmother, Yia yia in Greek! A public parking lot is a few steps away.
this is a smaller public lot that is is not directly situated on the port , but just above the Old Town Main square. Stairs are involved, but that is true of the entire town. Naplion is a treasure and this is the place for clean, simple, budget rooms in a location that offers what you seek.

go greece, I'm aware of the charms of Eleni, also Hotel Leto and others up there.. however, Chris named more upscale hotels and said she wanted that type of accommodation, so I did not bother with your and my budget favorites.

Traveler,
Your reply is well taken and I did hesitate to reply about Eleni, but I noted Chris45ny also mentioned that nearby parking and view was important at his lodging choice.
All of the properties mentioned have pluses and minuses... Guess I think all travelers should experience a lovely Greek landlady's hospitality at least once every trip to Greece. I am certain he will enjoy his stay.

You are so right ... I have a whole list of those landladies and hotel guys whom I hug upon arriving & kiss upon leaving, and whose children I've seen grow into young adults. I find that in these small family-run operations, the owners take a personal approach about their guests, and want it that way. So refreshing!
