Recommendations needed for Hotel in Rome near Piazza Navona
I will be in Rome in late September and would love some recommendations for hotels in Rome. I have heard that the Piazza Navona is a good location. Price range from $100 to $150. Also any tour or restaurant recommendations

Stayed at the Residenza Zanardelli last June and was pleased. Small place that is about a 2 minute walk from the Pizza. Here is their website...

www.hotelnavona.com

Deborah: We just returned from a stay at the Genio on Zanardelli. It was about 1/2 block from the Piazza Navona. It is a four star, but they were running a special with rooms half price at Euro 140. I don't know how long the special runs, but you should look into it. The rooms were very small, but very nice. A buffet breakfast was included.

We stayed at the Santa Chiara last October. We were very happy there. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. We did not here about or see any problem with mice. So maybe it was a very limited problem. With all the cats in Rome I would think it would be hard for mice to live very long ..
We paid $180 while we were there.
Have fun wherever you decide to stay!
I stayed at the Santa Chiara last fall and I highly recommend it if your budget can manage it.
Pleasant decor, outstanding location, great buffet breakfast was included,
no mice were included, staff helpful. Ask for a quiet room, those facing the front of the hotel can get a lot of street noise from motorcycles.

I can't offer a personal suggestion. This website does provide names/links for reasonably priced accommadations in major cities throughout Europe:
http://www.eurocheapo.com/

Also, if you do a search on this forum for National Geographic Traveler or "NGT" there were a couple threads which discussed an article in their mag for 10 or 12 good budget hotels in Rome.

We tried to reserve a room at the R. Zanardelli this past summer for April 2003. The owner said to call back in December. We did and was told it was all booked up by a tour group. Then we asked about their sister hotel, The Navona, and they said to call back in Jan.. He must think we are stupid!

We then took the advice of this forum and booked the Due Torri. They were polite and confirmed our reservation within 24 hours. Looked on their site and the rooms were charming. Can't wait to see the room in person.

Thanks Fodorites for the advice,
Greg

Yes, the Due Torri is a very nice place to stay. We stayed there for 8 nights in November. Other than the naked guy across the alley and the fact that we just got our VISA bill and they charged us TWICE for our stay, it is great! Working on getting the bill straightened out and as for the naked guy, you are on your own....
