I loved Rhodes when I was there but it's very much a party island. Did get some beautiful gold jewelry.

The two major towns on Santorini have some very nice hotels with great views. Do a search for Santorini, Oia or Fira for more info. Be careful about your desire for luxury, however. Some very nice hotels don't have the cush-y features we are used to, but I wouldn't rule them out. Just try to get as much info as you can, so that you don't have unrealistic expectations.

My husband and I are also going to Greece in October for our one year anniversary (also our second honeymoon), and are spending 4nights on Santorini. We contacted Dolphin Helenas travel agency in Athens (our contact is: [email protected]) and they were able to give us some great suggestions. We have chosen ASTRA APARTMENTS - Cat. A - Located in Imerovigli.
Have a wonderful time.

Hi Marie,

In Santorini, Katikies (located in Oia) is supposed to be a wonderful luxury hotel. I checked their website and also read many favorable postings about this property when researching my recent trip, but it was a bit out of my price range. Nonetheless, it looks magnificent!

Don't know if you've considered Myknonos as your 2nd destination, but there are certainly some lovely hotels there as well. The place I stayed was Petasos Beach Hotel - "A" class hotel, quite nice and very friendly staff (though I don't think I'd put it in the "splurge" category!) Same owners have just opened a new luxury hotel called Mykonos Grand which looks quite nice from the literature. A fabulous restaurant in Mykonos is Chez Maria - romantic atmosphere and great food.

Have a wonderful trip!

I second Sharon's suggestion. Rhodes is beautiful, with alot to do. Stayed at the Rodos Palace & loved it. Phone # is (0241) 25222 or fax # is (0241) 25350. I got a great deal (2 yrs. ago)thru a local travel agency called Rodos Pigasos Travel. Don't know if they're still around, but their #'s, just in case, are: (0241) 73455 or fax (0241) 35504. Good Luck ...

Lee, I also used Dolphin Hellas and was pleased with the service I got. You should know that Imerovigli is a bit remote. I stayed there in 1989. On my last trip I stayed in Firostephani, one town closer to Fira. What I preferred about Firostephani was that we could easily walk into Fira. It's a hike from Imerovigli. You will be more dependent upon transportation. In Firostephani I stayed at Sun Rocks Villas and truly loved it. We had room #31 which is in their highest category and would make a great splurge. There are many people on this board who highly recommend staying in Oia. You can do a search and come up with many posts.

I also stayed at Petasos Beach Hotel, and although I thought it wonderful, I would not put it in the honeymoon category. I know that Sheraton has one of their luxury collection properties on Mykonos. I suggest you check that out.

Santorini and Mykonos would make wonderful islands for a honeymoon -- just enough variety, in a Greek sort of way.

Hi Marie-

My boyfriend and I went to Greece at the end of May. I have two recommendations for "the" place. Santorini is wonderful but toristy. That's why it's key to stay in the right place. Away from the throngs of people.

If you can get a room, stay at Perivolas. Everyone questions if they should pay the rates at Perivolas or stay at one of the cheaper ones like Kathikes. Trust me, pay more. The service, clientele, rooms, food, are all much better quality. It really is worth it. It's the kind of island where you really want to just sit in the room or on the terrace and read and sun yourself. So you need a great hotel.

If you haven't already picked another island, I would also definately recommend Paros. Very romantic and lovely. Nice people, nice island. Stay at the Astir of Paros NO QUESTION. The best hotel on the island. Quite place, stunning beauty, lovely staff. Get the Executive Suite above the lobby. Very private. Huge balcony, etc. Great views! E-mail me if you have more questions. We went to four other islands total but this was our fave.

Also, don't know how much time you have, but I would stay four nights at Perivolas and 3 nights at Astir of Paros. Assuming you have about a week.

I would also book now! These are "the" places to stay on these two islands for luxury. THey shouldn't be missed. But the other poster was right. Luxury here (US) means something different. Greek luxury is still wonderful in a very laid back way.

Hope this helps.
