Scotland - Edinburgh hotel near airport

We have a 6:00 a.m. flight home out of Edinburgh airport. Has anyone stayed at the Hilton at the airport?

I haven't but it's only a few miles form the centre of Edinburgh to the airport & there are frequent night buses - and shuttle services and taxis... (see the Edinburgh Airport website)

So there's no need to stay anywhere near the airport unless you are driving to the airport from elsewhere

I have stayed there. We had an early flight out also (I don't care how frequent the shuttles are, the farther away you stay the earlier you have to get up and I don't do early mornings well....) I was able to cash in some Hilton Honors points for the room, and got a really large comfortable and quiet! room for the night. Actually, we got there at mid-morning after returning our rental car at the airport, had them hold our luggage for us, and then took one of the shuttles into Edinburgh for the day.

I get a bit anxious about missing my plane so I would probably do better being close to the airport and as you said we can use the shuttles to get there and back. From what I understand it is within walking distance of the airport. Is that correct?

The hotel is on the roadway into the airport. The hotel website says its 1/2 mile. I don't remember that there were sidewalks, and I'd want to walk there. We used the hotel's shuttle to get to the airport when we left. This is a pretty standard business airport hotel. I'm sure they're used to 6 am departures, and will be able to accommodate getting you to the terminal on time.

FYI: The Hilton is right where the busses turn to take you to the rental car lots (the stop being probably 150 yards or so on down the road). If they've got a shuttle, it should be easy, but I agree with the other poster who says that it's not something you'd want to walk with luggage (not even sure there is sidewalk all the way).

Agree, I wouldn't walk from the airport Hilton to the airport.

I'd recommend either staying at any hotel in town & getting a taxi - with no traffic at the time you will be travelling, it shouldn't cost more than £16 or take more than 20 minutes. Or stay at a hotel on the airbus route & get the bus for £3 each - www.flybybus.com.

Let us know if you want any specific recommendations.
