Scotland Rental Car

Hello all,

We are spending a week in Scotland in June and need to rent a car. Probably rent from the airport or possibly Dundee. Are there any rental car companies we should avoid? I know from driving in Sicily that some companies are better than others. Any advvice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I'd check Autoeurope.com They are a Maine-based broker that deals with all the major rental agencies. I personally would NOT try to collect a car in Dundee. EDI is much simpler - especially if you are going to be in Edinburgh before picking up the car.

Greenmotion and Easirent seem to receive maximum complaints across forums. We were in Scotland last October and rented from Arnold Clark, a local agency, and this was perhaps our best rental experience ever across Europe - you can book directly on their website or via an aggregator called Celtic Legend (which can works out cheaper as they sometimes waive one-way fees). They were also the most competitively priced.

Hello, I did Scotland last year and hired vehicle from Avis. Don’t know which ones to avoid but experience with Avis was wonderful.

By EDI, I'm thinking Janis means the airport. Driving in Edinburgh itself is a recipe for frustration.

If you're American, deal with an American company because it can resolve issues (if any arise) with the international franchisee later.

Yep. EDI = Edinburgh Airport -- not in Edinburgh city centre.

Both times we have rented cars in the UK, it has been with Enterprise. Great service, great cars. Make sure you get the sat-nav!
