Secrets of Paris Apartment Rentals?

I've found myself with an unexpected 2 months off. I immeditaly started looking for an apartment to rent for 4 weeks in Paris (hopefully in Marais or Latin Quarter) but have only found a few options (mostly very cheap or very expensive). Are there any secrets to last-minute (May or June) reasonably-priced, month-long rentals? I've considered an expensive rental, but I'm feeling lost in the sea of apartment rental companies. How do you know which one is reputable? Keeps the apartments clean?

Any advice would be really helpful!!
Thanks!!

Apart from the discussion (so to speak) about whether the government of France is located in the 7eme (it is), you might find this thread pertinent:

as for how you trust a rental company, you look for reviews and ask on message boards.

Hi, we rented an apartment in Paris a couple of years ago through "Rentals in Paris". Stayed in one of their apartments around the corner from Notre Dame - it was as descibed in their website. They have a number in the Marais district as well that we liked the look of but we needed something with 2 bedrooms to accommodate our family.

Before renting we had quite a number of e-mails going back and forth seeking clarification of various things. Their responses were prompt. On arrival in Paris we went from CDG to Opera by Roissybus then it was a short 20min walk to their offices. From here we compelted the paperwork and were accompanied by a representative to the apartment.

All in all a very positive experience and we wouldn't hesitate to stay in one of their apartments again. Hope this helps.

Their website is www.rentals-paris.com

This is very last minute indeed, but you might get lucky as some agencies may have apartments that aren't rented yet and be willing to give you a nice discount.

Go through the big Paris apartment thread here and spend some time clicking links and reading reviews. Once you have it narrowed down to 1 or 2 agencies, I'd start sending emails and telling them exactly when you'll be there, how long, and what it is you are looking for. I don't think I'd spend too much time trying to find an apartment myself, it would be too time consuming. Let the agents do the work for you.

Good luck!!! Going to Paris for 4 weeks is awesome!

My family rented a small apartment in the 5th through the agency Paris Address and had a great experience.

While the apartment we rented only has a couple of weeks available in May and June (I checked for you already), I would heartily recommend the agency. The were very patient with my many questions and very helpful at check-in.

Here's their web addres:

Good luck with your search.

I highly recommend vacationsinparis.com. We rented a studio in the 5th last month and were very happy with both the accommodation and the service.

Looking a bit forward, but how far in advance should I book an apt to rent (in Paris) for the end of March/first week of April 2010?
TYA!

Thanks all for your replies. They were very helpful.

Julieah, it looks like there are still weeks available to rent in May / June here and there. The problem is that I've been looking for 4 consecutive weeks. For that much time, it looks like you need a least 2 months advance notice.

I am using Paris Attitudes for my rental in the Latin Quarter. They can narrow down your search for what they have available without you doing all the work--but it will cost you a rental agency fee of course. I have been very happy so far--check with me after June 1st when we return

I have been very happy with Haven in Paris (www.haveninparis.com). Their apartments are gorgeous and the customer service is prompt and helpful. It's probably too last minute to find an apartment through them at this point though, and they may be a little out of your price range, but to keep in mind for a next trip maybe

Melissa,

You might call some of the rental agencies and ask what they have available for your dates. Vacation in Paris has a toll-free number 1-800 403 4304 and some of the others may as well.

Last year I tried to rent this apartment on short notice. www.vrbo.com/102516 The owner was very helpful providing me additional info but someone else booked it over the few days I took to decide. Right now it looks to be available mid-May to mid-June.

I send my Japanese friends there http://www.residences-paris.com/ and they've always given me good reviews.
It's central, friendly and the website gives you a lot of choice. From the website I saw they gave discounts from time to time.
